SS-197 USS Seawolf has engaged a japanese task force in the Celebes sea, sinking a Shokaku class carrier and one destroyer, Lt. Nathaniel Dirksen and Crew were recieved with honors and medals when the Seawolf retuned to Surabaya. Also sunk by the USS Seawolf crew were 2 freighters and 6 aircraft shot down. That is all.

Very nice. Carriers are rare and sometimes very difficult targets. Best to curb your appetite for those aircraft though.
Sub warfare is an economic war. You are using a cheap and easy to replace submarine to attack expensive and difficult to replace warships and merchants. When you attack airplanes you reverse the equation, attacking cheap and expendable airplanes with a relatively expensive and difficult to replace submarine. If you die, it is considered honorable to be on the correct side of the equation, because that results in war victory.
