Worth installing?

I have downloaded it but is it worth to replace all my original game files with this mod?

It's three years old now. If you liked RUB I would recommend getting its descendant - NYGM. Much more advanced version of the same ideas.

Although my experience has only been playing with stock SH3, The Grey Wolves Mod, and GWX over the past year or so, I'd like to offer you my viewpoint on this in the hope that it will be of some value to you.

"Real U-boat" is an older mod, but don't let that worry you. Just because a game or mod is "old" does not mean it has no worth and it in no way implies that anything newer is better.

Some of my most favorite games and mods are considered obsolete or "not worth it" just because there is a current mod or game that has better graphics or techonology.

In its day, Real U-boat was considered the example that all other SH3 mods were measured against. Many of the features in RUb still exist in some of the newer SH3 super-mods today.

"Is it worth it?", you asked.

My answer is a very firm "yes".

Real U-boat, just like other SH3 mods, is intended to fix the bugs and shortcomings in SH3 to give you a much richer and more realistic experience as a u-boat captain than what you will get from the stock, or "vanilla", SH3 game.

This also makes the game more difficult to play because "realism" means that you can no longer sink a ship with a few shots from the deck gun and torpedo attacks require much better skill and timing. Taking on enemy aircraft with your flak gun is no longer a "turkey shoot" and you will be taking great risks to the safety of your boat and crew to shoot them down.

However, if you're up for more challenge in playing SH3 and having a much more "real" feeling of commanding a u-boat in WWII, then using one of the super-mods is something I heartily recommend to you.

If you have an older computer, it is true you would be better off sticking to older mods, such as RUb 1.45 or GWX 1.03. These mods have less impact on your system's speed and performance.

If you have a newer computer where these things are not an issue then feel free to try any of the mods that catches your eye and imagination.

Most people, it seems to me, love GWX. It is true that this one is the largest and most extensive of all the mods and I have been hooked on it since I learned that SH3 mods existed.

But...

NYGM, WAC, LSH3, and others have just as much good to offer. It's all a matter of what type of game play you wish to have. I hope users of these other mods will give you their opinions and reasons why they like these mods.

I can't offer much about them because I've had troubles with my computer over the last several months that I only just recently have gotten fixed. I do plan on installing these other mods to give myself as broad an experience with SH3 as I can. It's possible I might even find that I like one of them better than GWX!

In the end, you might wish to try all of them.

You might even find yourself building your own SH3 mods to suit your tastes or using mod-making skills to pick and choose the features from all the SH3 mods to make a super-mod tailored to what you want most.

To make a short answer out of all that I've said...

The best mod to have is the one that gives you the most enjoyment and fun, regardless of what everyone else may play.
