Default I'm sick

Npw that may come as no surprise to some here , but actually all I claim to have is a wicked bad head cold. My sinus' are so packed up my upper teeth hurt and the end of my nose is raw from constantly blowing it.

I'm drinking tea with honey atm and Rose is out shopping for some Vicks vapo-rub with which she intends to torture me in some scheme involving a bucket of hot water and a big red towel.

So what i am wondering is what are some home remedy's for head colds in your country/state/province/kingdom/etc? What gets you back on your feet the quickest?

Sorry to hear you're down, and sorry that I know of nothing that helps. I just suffer through things like that, and take lots of cold&flu crap to help with the symptoms.

I remember a Beverly Hillbillies episode in which banker Drysdale has a cold, and his doctor keeps telling him that the only real cure is to get plenty of rest and drink lots of liquids. Jed keeps telling him that Granny has a cure that works every time. After he chokes the awful stuff down they tell him "Now get plenty of rest and drink lots of water, and in three or four days your cold will be gone. Never fails!"

There is a device that looks like a mini tea pot that health food stores have. About 10 bucks or so. You fill it with tepid water with just a pinch of sea salt. You place the spiggot into one nostril and then tip your head down and allow the water to flush out your sinuses, repeat this in the other nostril. I used to get sinus infections and this was far superior than taking anti-biotics and it really works. If you try this do it at leat a few times a day and before bed. Definetely the best thing for a head cold, but will do nothing for the chest.

My chest is clear atm. It seems confined to the nasal passages.

August,

better rest it out even if your chest feels clear. I have a flu and some temperature and have the weekend plus monday to rest.

Well with the difference that you can quit when you want. Actually I'm not even sure if it works, might just drink the water and hydrate the body, might work better.

One part of getting better from a flu is to get back in shape once it's over and regain one's strenght cause the next one might be just around the corner.

On a related note, here's a good thing to remember that may keep flus and other even more serious diseases from getting around.

Seriously take care colds and flu can weaken the heart muscles and banging straight back to work can cause big problems.

I managed a pharmacy for a couple of years, and I still say that working there stopped me getting the flu. Since I started there in 2004 I've avoided the flu, and even in the 2 years since I left, I've had no real dramas with illness. I think of it as a natural inocculation against the different strains, by being exposed to it all in small quantities I was able to get up the antibodies needed

It was quite a bonus - another was being the only male on staff (this was back when I was young and unattached )

put on heaps of clothes then hop in bed and sweat it out for 24hrs, do nothing just keep warm and sip water or lemon sip. Works for me with colds/flu's I just get myself in bed make sure the temperature is hot and sleep it off for a day, the lemonsip will knockme out i'll wake up 3 or 4 times sweating like a pig but after the long sleep is over im fine. This way a flu or cold never lasts longer than 24hrs. Mild flu that is, Ive never had a bad flu that can keep some in bed for days.

Man you scared me. I thought you had something terminal when I read the title.

On a side note one of my Civil War re-enacting buddies at one of our re-enactments a few years ago became sick. We thought that he had pneumonia. It wasn't pneumonia. He had blood clots in his lungs, and it nearly killed him!! He's had major surgery and is okay now, but he was very near death a few times. Scary stuff.

So go get checked out!
