Default Ai not attacking??

I just setup a test scenario where I have an Akula, and am protecting an Oscar II whose task is to blow away an american carrier (currently unprotected).

I have specified the Oscar's objective to be the carrier's destruction, but to no avail. The Oscar does not attack the CV, even if trying different distances from the target (To ensure detection). If at long range the Oscar should use his powerful missiles, if at short range then at least it should fire some torpedo. But he simply cruises around and doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong?

P.S. Yes the countries are set as enemy sides and the ROEs are war time.

I made a mission in the ME to see if I get the same results as you. Turns out exactly like you stated. After replacing the Oscar with an Akula though, the Akula quickly made mincemeat of the carrier. The Oscar just continued on it's course, not engaging at all, so I do not know what the problem is.

I did get the Oscar to engage by using a script, so it is possible.

I'd suggest not specifying a target for the Oscar, unless scripts are being used. Under wartime ROE, the Oscar should engage hostile contacts without any specific orders to do so.

Another possibility is that the problem relates not to detection, but to classification. (Although for sonar contacts, both occur simultaneously---but, the ranges are fudged to account for this). Try putting the Oscar at PD and having a playable on the link so you can verify that the Oscar knows the contact is hostile. If you're playing stock DW, the Oscar has substantially less sonar capability than an Akula, so it might not engage at the same range an Akula would.

OK, will try as a desperate measure if needed, thanks

Yes I'm doing the scenario for stock DW currently. May be the sub is too far for detecting the carrier when it is far enough for the SS-N-19 Granit , and too close for them when at detection range

Actually, what I was interested in seeing was how the Oscar employed its SS-N-19s, i.e. how many it launched, how close it came to the target, if the salvo was enough to go through the carrier defences, etc.

I'll try placing it in the link as suggested :hmm:

If you want a Shipwreck engagement instead of a torpedo engagement, then over-the-horizon targeting will be required. Keep the Oscar far, far away, and have a Bear fly around the carrier, just outside of SAM range.

Thanks will try also.

My idea was to create a scenario where a human playable Kilo would need to track and pinpoint the carrier with precision and pass the data to the Oscar, so he can attack the CV. And also another where the human Akula needs to protect it. What must I do as Kilo player to give the Oscar the data for his attack?

Thanks
