New James Bond Novel Out Tomorrow

Plot of Bond novel is top secret May 27, 2008

London - A new James Bond novel will be published on Wednesday, the 100th anniversary of the birth of his creator, Ian Fleming, but as befits the British fictional superspy, the plot is being kept top secret.

Devil May Care was penned by the award-winning British novelist Sebastian Faulks at the request of the late author's family.

My favourite novel from the series was "From Russia with Love", and film would be "Gold Finger".

And in my humble opinion no one came close to capturing the mind image I had of James Bond as Sean Connery did.

Huh Connery capturing what Bond should be like....blasphemy. I can't agree with that. Daniel Craig captures him better.

I was only a fan of the first 4 films... and then it got old. The plot just kept repeating over and over again. Same ****; different day. Bond never dies, evil guy always gets his come-uppins, and they NEVER KILL HIM WHEN THEY HAVE THE CHANCE; WHEN HE'S RIGHT THERE. DON'T TOY WITH THE MAN! LOOK AT HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HE'S KILLED. JUST GET A GUN, AND SHOOT HIM.

Common sense is needed for these things to be made appealing to people who like logic.

First 4 had originality. The rest... not so much.

It still entertains me. Perhaps I'm simple. If you go to the movies and comment on everything that's "not logical" though, you are a major downer. It's the movies FFS!

One of my favourite quotes! It goes well with my workplace, a library.

BTW the Uncle of Daniel Craig whoks here, and he does pop in to see his unlce when he is in Sydney.

I think he's the best since Connery, but I'll wait to see how he goes in the next couple of films to make a call on if he's the best.

I am still a big fan of the original books. The movies, frankly bear little resemblance to the books but are very entertaining.

I read but did not care for the John Gardner versions of James Bond. Ian was no Shakespeare but he did have an enjoyable writing style.

According to the advertising, this new novel, written by Faulks, tries to emulate the writing style of Flemming. I hope he can.

My favourite Book is also "From Russia with love", Just finished rereading it last week. This week I am reading Goldfinger. Flemming makes a very nice repose from serious academic readings.


Although I hated the screen adaption of the new Casino Royale I do think that Craig does represent the character of James Bond rather well. In the novels, James Bond was not a pretty boy. He was rather an animalistic thug. Craig seemed to carry that well onto the screen.

That's my point with the new Bond films. Craig portrays Bond how he is. Connery didn't. He was more dinner jacket 60's suave.

I don't get this thing with Connery why he was the best Bond? IMHO I think Timothy Dalton did a good crack. He was quite brutal in the two outings he had.

I dunno if he was as good as Connery (yet), but certainly the best since. I'll have to see a few more Bond films with Craig before I change my mind.
