On return from my last patrol, I recieved a simple message from BdU saying "Restrictions against American shipping have now been removed"
Now, its December 25th 1941, and I have an urge now to hop into a IXC boat, and hit the harbour of New York if there's anything in there, or something juicy near the US coast. My patrol I just finished had me down near Freetown, and in a VIIC boat I had barely enough fuel to get back to base. So, especially now American shipping is free game, I'm thinking its time for a IXC boat. U94 has served me and my crew well, but its time to make a boat change. IXC....here I come!!!! ![]() ![]() |

I've always preferred the IX boats....more firepower and better range

Could always take the small realism hit and select unlimited fuel if you really want to do a few missions in the gulf and then get back to the east missions.
Even with TC it can be a long trip to the states and back ![]()

Can I just ask, for the Kaleuns who make the long trip to the coast of the US, what speed do you guys normally sail at? I'm closing in on the US coast, and in a IXC boat, and i've used up nearly half of my fuel. I've been sailing at ahead 1/3, cruising at 11 knots and diving regularly to run the batteries rather than my diesels.
but, i'm wondering if i'll even be able to make it home now when my mission off the coast is complete. Does anyone go for a fuel stop in the Canary Islands before they head to the US coast? cheers guys ![]() |

Yes, but it depends upon the type of boat I have.
