I see there are workarounds for DOS-based SH to run on Windows XP.
Are any workarounds necessary to get my Windows 95 688(I) to run on XP? Or Vista? Planning to finally buy a new PC and want to know if it means kissing my 688(I) good-bye. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I've had no problem playing this game on Vista to be honest. Didn't need to adjust anything, ran right out of the box (well, there was no box - I bought it via Steam). Runs perfectly well on my laptop with Vista Home Premium. Haven't tried it on my desktop with XP but I wouldn't expect problems there either.

Thanks CCIP, that's reassuring! If we go with Vista, it'll be the Home Premium edition.

For 688I, it will work fine on XP.
Go here: http://www.sonalystscombatsims.com/g...downloads.html Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see the update patchs for 688I. You can use them if you aren't using the 688I that came as a part of the Naval Combat Pack. Download the V107 patch for your preferred language and just unzip the file directly nto your 688I folder. Have it overwrite the file when it asks. Also, under the V107 patch on that download page is the Renderware DLL's for Win2000. Download that and unzip the file directly into your 688I folder, again, overwriting all files. This will get 688I to run smoothly on XP. I don't know about Vista, but I can confirm that with the above patches, it runs perfect on XP. ![]()
