Yeah, he did. And in so doing saved the lives of countless Americans who would have died in trying to invade and occupy the Japanese homeland. Six days after Nagasaki Japan surrendered.

I think dropping the A-bomb is the best thing we could do for mankind. But that is for another thread sometime.

I want one with the least socialist ideas.
I want the one who will stay away from my wallet (that is more of a local problem than national IMO).
I want one who has a strong stand on foreign policy (but not a hawk per se).
I want one who is partisan and will stand up for their beliefs.

But most of this is worthless, because the other branches of gov't are presently worthless, so I guess we're dead in the water.

DeepIron, I have always thought that Truman was one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated men in the Oval Office. The USA - and the world - could do a lot worse.

I like that idea, but it seems like the last 2 times we did that, we (US) get dragged into a major European war. Plus, since Canada has closer ties to the Crown

than the US, geuss who gets dragged into the fighting first.
