Default Confused with manual and stadimeter

Ok, I've done a bit of searching and can't find a straight answer to this.

1st. I've always had problems getting the right range on the ships. I know I'm identifying them correctly. Which mast do I compare the height to?

I heard there was a problem with the mast heights or something.
BTW, I'm running 1.4 - RFB - NSM - RSRD

I thought by my version wouldn't have any more problems w/ ship heights.

Also: Is there a key to be found with the little red marks that ships have in the manual? I started noticing those marks when I first started using the mods.

To get range with the stadmeter, find your boat in the recognition manual. Lock the target and then click the range button to use the stadmeter. With your cursor in periscope view and using your mouse, you will see two images. Pull the transparent image down until the highest point on the tallest mast on one image aligns with the waterline on the other image. Click send to TDC twice (the red button) and this should send the info to the TDC or Position Keeper. Also, check out some of the stickied threads in this forum. Such as for newbies, that sort of thing. There is much detailed info in there, with a better description than what I have given to you here.
