High Res Fonts?

I'm now running SH3/GWX under Vista64 at the best graphics resolution I've ever been able to achieve: 1680x1050

I could never get this to work at higher res under XP. Looks very nice.
Just that some of the fonts now look a tad blotchey.

For instance:
Nav Map Sector Letters
Heading indicator on the scope & uzo
Some of the fonts in message box text
And OK, the sub graphic emblems don't look quite as nice

Everything else looks great, I certainly wouldn't change it back to 1024x768 for just the lack of the above.

Anyone taken any steps to correct this?

Sorry I do not have a fix for your font problem, but I'm curious, what patch are you using to enable high resolutions under windows vista? All of the threads I have seen on the topic seem to be specific to Windows XP SP2. Also: is it actually running in widescreen mode, or is it just being stretched out to fill the screen?

I used that non-SH specific dll gadget that forces dx9-based games to run hires. All I had to do was copy the dll along with its text config file to the SH3 installation directory... and modified the config file to the resolution I wanted.

1680x1050 is native for my monitor and I'm using the same for my desktop. I haven't tried running it at any resolution other than my desktop is using. I heard it might CTD if you try to run a different res than your desktop, but I haven't tested it.

Seems less squished... but I dunno if I'm getting a wider view or just growing accustomed to looking at the stretched image. I'd have to take a few screenshots (maybe of the navmap) and see if it actually displays a wider angle.

I don't seem to have any problem with distorted math calcs or distances though. I seem to recall some others talking of that...

I'm running Vista64 on a (3-4 year old) Asus A8N-SLI board, AMD64 FX55 proc, and a single nVidia 6800 Ultra (quite dated).

Yesterday I picked up two new nVidia 9600's to drop in... which will no doubt cause everything to stop working, as typical of every upgrade I ever attempt.

Well, I tried to search here about how to run SH3 with GWX in high resolution under XP w SP2 and came up empty. Would you mind to point me to the threads or let me know how to do that?

BTW what is the asolutely highest resolution you can run SH3+GWX under? I have an excellent PC setup and I'd like to push it to its full potential.

XP SP2 Res Fix - http://files.filefront.com/SH3+XPSP2.../fileinfo.html

You should be able to push your res as far as your PC will allow. Instructions for use are inside the archive.

Thanks a lot, mate. That is definitely an improvement. I can run it now in 2048x1536 full details. That puts totally different perspective into the game...

Much appreciated!

Just copy the two batch files and the SHIII.sdb file to your SH3 directory, and run the "SP2 Res fix.bat".(I've included a batch file to uninstall the fix should you ever need to.) I've included the d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg in case you don't already have it.
Ok, I did exactly the same. I copy all of files into SilentHunterIII directory and then ran 'SP2 Rez fix.bat'. Should I do anything else? Where i can change the resolution to 1280x1024 now?
In d3d9.cfg I find:
Code:

resX=1280
resY=960
useFiltering=1
enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=.
I must change resY=960 to resY=1024?

Sorry form my poor english
