Greetings! Probably won't remember me but I was the guy playing SH3 without any mods about a year ago :rotfl:
Recently bought SH4 (just arrived yesterday actually) and wanted to reacquaint myself with everyone, plus toss up some questions while I was at it. I noticed the supported video cards are from the time of release, and I've checked to see if they've updated that but never seen a different list, are newer cards going to crash my game? I'm using a GeForce 8800GT, I've only done the first training mission so far, and it sure looked gorgeous, but want to make sure I'm not going to run into any issues later. Which leads to my second question, and I could probably google this one but I didn't see it in the keyboard pamphlet deal, how do I set my boat back on course after a manual deviation? Is there a return to course somewhere? I didn't see one. Lastly, in regard to the missions in the campaign, it sounds like they'll have actual mission types, whereas in SH3 they'd just send you somewhere to patrol an empty plot of sea, devoid of any ships but you. Will there be targets to sink in these missions, or do people still patrol off on their own after the mission is accomplished to get some tonnage in? I'm still adjusting to the new layout, found it funny that even after a year my hands would instinctively reach for SH3 shortcuts. At least I think it's a new layout, I remember the space bar being for locking on to a target, and enter being for firing...I almost fired at a destroyer in the first training mission, heck of a way to graduate submariner school ![]() Anyways, hello all! Happy hunting |

I don't know of any issues with the nVidia cards.
The return to course option is a button in the map section of the control bar. |

There is a way to have the Trigger Maru Keyboard layout, which is very close to the old SH3 layout. Just click the magic link and download. I've added shift-i as crewman identify target. I like it better because the attack screen is mapped to F6. That alone makes the SH3 layout superior to the SH4.
If you get tired of SH4 running so fast on that 8800GT I'll be glad to trade you even for a 7600GT or a 7900GS, your choice!:rotfl:Other than that obscenely too-high framerate, your card will do fine. Just let me know if you get tired of it. In the Trigger Maru keyboard, ctrl-r is return to course. You have to find the button in the normal layout. In my first half-dozen cruises I got the "deliver agent to Delian" four times. I loved it because I was usually out of torpedoes before I got to the dropoff. I finally ignored opportunities on the way and just killed them on the way back. Most missions are the same. There are plenty of targets to and from the mission and you don't have to go out of your way too much. Welcome to American boats: the limosines of the Pacific. Learn to use the ice cream maker and enjoy the air conditioning. ![]()

Hahah no, this is a brand new system, I won't be trading it anytime soon :p But I'm happy to hear I won't have problems, either, I was afraid I'd have to return the game, and that'd be shame since I got it for such a good price.
AC? AC?!? Blah, real men don't use AC! The hotter the better, and besides, it's better then the cold, dark depths. Hmmm I'm going to have to take a second look for that return to course thing, I could've sworn I didn't see it in the keyboard layout map or the in game menu, but it was late so I probably just missed it. Thanks for the help guys! Looking forward to getting a campaign started and giving the Pacific a go. |

The AC is'nt meant for you anyway, it's to keep the electrical equipment cool.

If you don't mind me asking what brand do you have? I was looking at an 8800GTS: EVGA at $114 and an MSI at $119 (after rebate) but I am not familiar with either brand. Peabody

![]() As far as brands, I don't know that much either! I got an EVGA from newegg, they had a nice overclocked model I liked, no work for me, barely cost more then the base price and had good reviews, my motherboard was EVGA also though so that's part of the reason as well. But I've heard great things from both EVGA and BFG as far as brands go, and I just read on gamespot they were using an XFX to test a new 9 series card, so they should be all good brands. I'd check up the different brands on newegg and check the ratings ![]() Last edited by Khourieat; 04-02-08 at 02:32 PM. |

Well, I'm off to a good start. Left port at Pearl, headed for Japanese water, was sunk by first airplane to drop a bomb...didn't even see any kind of merchant shipping...

I'm new to SH4 (ver 1.4) too, and the first thing I had to do was adjust the enemy planes. You can use notepad to edit the file called Aircraft.cfg in the CFG folder. I know that it's not as realistic to cut down the air traffic significantly, but it allows me to get to the fun parts more quickly (and that's what I play for). ![]() |
