Default [TEC] missing eyes

hi,
i'm investigating the missing eyeball problem and this
is what i've got so far:

eyes are not missing but stuck on the wrong position
inside the head. editing marine.dat allows to change
position (z-axis) of the eyeballs.

but this does not solve the problem as not all
crew members always have missing eyes at the same time.

files that could be causing the problem are:
data/library/characters/marine.dat
data/shaders/ - too much to list all..

maybe someone with real knowledge could take a look.

for me on my ATI card HD3870 eyes are only missing on the
conning deck, but that all the time.

it would be helpful for further investigation if all of you
with the missing eyes issue could list which graphics card you have
and when the problem does occur.

GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (SLI or dual conf) with Forceware version 169.25. Eyes of the crew disappear all the time, but I can't say exactly when. Thanks for your effort I hope you can nail this one down.

When it happens you can clip off the crew's faces with the free camera and see the eyes and teeth inside the head. The eyes normally look at the camera, but when they go into freaky mode, they no longer follow the camera.

I don't think it's a graphic card problem.

I always get it after being in time compression mode for any length of time. I normally swap a crewmember about in the management screen to cure that. Once you do that, they go back to normal.

It's probably the same type of animation issue as the dive planes not working properly if you dive or surface whilst in TC.

Which means it could be a coding issue?

Mike.

I noticed this very rarely on my old rig (Radeon X1650 Pro, Omega 4.8.442 drivers). Now it's there pretty much every time I load up the game in Single Mission to test my new rig's performance (HD3650 on the same drivers). Maybe it's an AA/AF issue...? I have upped both from AAx2 AFx4 on my old junk bucket to AAx4 AFx8 on the new rig. :hmm:

Radeon X1600XT

My guys' eyes dissappear in two different ways. Both bored into their skulls and also in their right place but with a skin tone texture instead of the real eye texture.

Oh and this happens to both my watch crew, conning tower and command room crew...

I muckrd uround with the eyeballs PS file in the shaders/skinning and only changed colour of the eye balls . Maybe some animation file somewhere . Actually didnt Anvat fix the crew head in SH3 . I suspect that in certain models that the eyes dont align in the correct position with the head . Eyes are slightly too far back or something . Same sort of thing maybe . I also notice that they sometimes appear when going from submerged to surfacing .

Hey anvat where are you

I'm played (or should i say simmed:hmm over 2 houres now and i can confirme that it works (till now at least) wath i said in my previous post .

Had all the time normal eyes with NOT DECREASING TC BUT HITTING THE WHEELSYMBOL AND GOING ALWAYS TO THE COMMANDROOM FIRST ! (going strait from TC to 1 this way)
The men in the command/controlroom and on the bridge had always normal eyes this way .

ONES !! i had no eyes and that was when i first decreast TC by hitting ( - ) button and going from 128 to 64 and then going to the controlroom .

The wy off this all ....have no idea

greetz all and try it and let us know

ps :never been higher then x 512 TC (i leave that to the star trek skippers among us )

Nice findings there, momo55. Here's the catch, though: I don't think I've ever used TC since I built my new rig (I'm playtesting performance right now, and I'm being baffled by a HUGE slowdown whenever I hit an enemy ship), and still I see missing eyes almost consistently. So there's something else at play as well.

that's right, i have missing eyes right from
the start on conning deck all the time.
it seems that the problem is much more complex
than i thought at first. consistent for some,
like me, randomly for others.

i still believe it has something to do with
how newer graphic drivers, ati or nvidia-
works with the SH4 engine.

i was hoping for a comment from the devs,
if they are aware of this.

Damn ...it still works for the commandroom and conningtower ...however ..the bridgecrew lost theire eyeballs ( and are on there knees right now looking for them .

Don't know wath triggerd it all the sudden ..it went well for houres ...( of gameplay )
I agree with you that there must be something else causing this .

Sorry for the fals hopes i gave

23:00
EDIT:Been playing for 10 houres today ( i know..just one of those days ) and just endet patrol .
Never had any eyeproblems in command and conningtower .
Now this is weird ! The only 2 times the eyes where missing of the bridgecrew ..was
when in a rainingperiod .
Rain gone => eyes back
conclusion : We don't need sunglasses ..we need rainglasses !
