I have just updated my GeForce 5700 LE Graphic Card to a NVidia 7600GT 512mb Graphic Card, can anybody tell me the maximum power supply that would be needed to run this card.

Most sites recommend that for anything above a 5700 a minimum of 500 watts is recommended.

I think it depends greatly upon the power requirements of your CPU.
I'm running the same video card with a core2 duo e4300 (clocked at 3ghz) with an antec smart power 2 (450w) and all is well. I learned long ago that the PS is not something to skimp on. ![]() |

Try http://web.aanet.com.au/SnooP/psucalc.php
There are some myths regarding how much power you really need. Often you need much less than you think. ![]() |

For AGP video cards that require being plugged into the power supply, it's not so much how many watts the PSU pumps out at it is how many amps it supplies on the +12V rail. A minimum of 24 amps is recommended, more if you have many devices connected that use the +12V power, like cooling fans, drive motors, etc.
Also, be careful about the wattage. Many PSUs that claim to be 500w, or whatever, are actually not. They're referring to the peak output that can be used only for short duration. Look for PSUs that list the max sustained output. That is what you should expect to have as a constant power level.

Thanks for the quick response guy's much appreciated.
Further info below if anyone can help. My System is as follows:- Motherboard is an Asus A7N8X-E delux AMD Sempron 3000+, MMX 3DNow, ~2.0GHz 1024mb Ram (upgrading to 2Gb) DirectX 9C installed GeForce 7600GT 512Mb A 400watt power supply installed which I thought was sufficient to run this Graphic Card as it was working ok with my GeForce 5700LE Have tried reinstalling both SH3 & SH4 but still having graphic problems. |

For what it's worth, I have the same graphics card (7600GT 512MB AGP), and I installed a 400W PSU at the same time. It works fine.

Thanks Guys,
Have upgraded to a 520w power supply, still having problems with SH3/SH4 going to a Black or Green screen and then the computer rebooting itself, have the latest nvidia driver installed 169.21. When Playing other games i get white strips or the odd colours. Can you let me know what driver you are using with your GeForce 7 series cards. |

Hmm that sounds fishy, I use the same drivers. I would ask first what kind of power supply you purchased. Like I stated A good one isnt always a good one. I replaced 8 350 w PSU's at work that were 1 year old and all failed mostly taking out the entire Mainboard with them. Upon further research I found that alot of PSU's on the market are mislabled I.E. dont put out the power stated and are unstable with the 12v 5v and 3v rails fluctuating. Now in a normal PC that would be fine but a gaming pc needs that stability. I truly beleive that PSU's account for much more problems than they get credit for
2nd I would reload your drivers and try again. 3rd failing in that I would try returning your GPU for exchange as alot of CPU parts go through burn in failure which is failure 1st to 30th day is quit common. |
