Default OLC GUI - first impression

So... first patrol with OLc GUI GWX2 100%
Was sent to the ED97 (Operation Paukenschlag) ... with my VIIc ... not the best choice imho for my boat...

Went there and found a Med Tanker on my way there...
Guess I am just too unpatient... well he saw me... (GWX 2.0's AI is really unfair at this point! ... is there a "fix" possible?)

Well I did my best... but it was zigging and zagging and I missed with the first torp.
I then sneaked my way to it till I was around 800 and fired a "quick shot" as I knew his speed... I estimated his AOB roughly and good enough ... and distance was not a problem ..

aimed for the stern section and hit it right there

shot again and missed... I don't know what I did wrong... I guess I missed bow-wise as it slowed down and I forget to take that into consideration

so... it slowed down..... so I could not calculate the speed that easy at 6x zoom so I just estimated it to 2kts and shot at his bow and again hit 100% where I aimed (yeah I know should have gone to 1x and use the 15° scratch mark... but hey at 600m I could not miss )

All shots were done with TIII torps as contact torps on 5m as sea was a bit rough.
All hits were exploding so I guess I also estimated the hit angle right.

My problem is just that I am spottet too early......

I hear my WO tell me "enemy spottet" and in the same second I hear the first salvo of enemy fire go by.... ... or hit me

Two things to keep in mind:

1. Speed Kills. The faster you go, the greater the distance they can see you at. I was raiding Loch Ewe the other night, running decks awash as slow as I could. Out of nowhere came an escort, and passed my stern at about 100m. Crank up the speed, and you're guaranteed to be spotted.

2. Time compression. High TC has the nasty habit of dropping you in the middle of the action, quite literally. Usually under a barrage of shells later in the war. Generally x125 is the maximum recommended speed. But even I lack that patience.

Happy Hunting.

I just escaped death in '41. Managed to get consistent hits with the new GUI so I thought I'd try a career patrol. Contact report: Large convoy, heading NNE speed 7knts! Flank speed! *cue Das Boot music* The weather is horrid, thunderstorm and low visibility, but I press the attack as its the first contact after 2 weeks at sea.

I can't see anything, the rain is lashing those in the conning tower ferociously. "Ship spotted, short range!" I thought, "at last, a merchant". Was ist das? Mein got! ALLLLLLLAAAARRRMMMMM! Teife!" The spotlight illuminates the boat and shells start falling around us, I've driven right into the middle of the convoy! Spent 1 hour 30 minutes evading the escorts who gave me a few close calls. Not having the external camera really makes the boat feel claustrophobic! I have yet to sink a single ship, bloody weather!

Can't imagine how much work the OLC GUI must have taken, all I can say is bloody good job, have a beer on me when we get back to Brest!

Let me correct this for you (I am German ) :

- Was ist das? Mein Gott! Allarm! Tiefe!

Well I guess I can share that experience but when I happend to face the situation you describe I was not using OLC GUI ... but my mighty Weapons Officer gave me the perfect solution...

Lol, yeah well its been a few years since I did German GCSE... unfortunately I've forgotten most of it! Would like to take on a language sometime though, I visit Germany every year or two and its really nice to be able to speak the local lingo. Give me some credit though, was only two letters off!

Yeah, it's an awesome mod. One of my favourites.
