Default How can I give SH4 back to UBI because multiplayer don't work yet?

A game that can't played online is worthless.
The most people have not used a router - only a modem - but starting a session is not possible.

I have no router and made all port-exeptions in my firewall, but nobody can connect (I don't block popups set my explorersecurity to medium).
I have the suspect that you can only connect with the IP of your first login.
I talked with the people hosted a game - they had a static IP or were the first time online.
The most people get a dynamic IP from their provider. The people didn't manage to host a game despite the fact they are not using a router.
(I don't want to play it offline!)

Welcome aboard Diplomatic....

As for returning the app to Ubi - you would have to ask them. However, even people who dont "have a router" still use routing functions - its built into the cable/dsl modem you use. While I don't play online, to say a game is "useless" without it - well - perhaps for you personally, but many of us find the game more than enjoyable as single players. Most games would be - but sims such as this are a "different breed". However, your entitled to your opinion of it. I can state that most folks who have tried the multiplayer indicate to me that it does work.

Almost all current cable/dsl modems have a web interface where you can open specific ports on the modem to allow connections. My guess is this is where your having an issue. Run ipconfig and find the "gateway" IP of your computer. The gateway is the internal IP of your modem. Type that into your web browser (usually its something like 192.168.x.1 or x.254 where x is usually 1 or 0) and you should get a web connection to your modem. It may require a login - but that will be where you configure your port forwarding, etc. Enjoy.

There someone goes again!

Never ask for help. Insult the game. Insult the developers. Insult the game company. Wonder why no one helps. Go figure. Enough from you. Get lost.

Diplomatic - if your modem doenst have a configuration you can modify, then contact your ISP to have them set it up to allow the proper ports to be open. (I am a network engineer by trade - just because your IP changes isnt going to keep you from playing online - this game does NOT require static IP's.)

I have seen the occasional DSL Modem that doesnt have a end user interface - but they are rare. Your best bet is to contact your ISP and either give em the specific port numbers to open - or tell em to just open it fully and you will have to do your security on a one line stand - your pc firewall. *God I hope you arent using windows firewall if thats the case - or Nortons internet insecurity*

RockinRobin - relax man - we have all had our frustrations with the game, and while I agree with the sentiment of lets not jump on the people that gave us a great game, we all have to remember that we can't control others, just our own responses. Who knows - if ole Diplomat gets his connection problem fixed - he might be loving the game as much as you and I - if not - then he wont last long on the forum anyway.

Why don't we just answer the man's question?

Question:
How can I give SH4 back to UBI because multiplayer don't work yet?

Answer:
Step 1: Place DVD and all accompanying printed materials back in box
Step 2: Wrap box in brown paper (be sure to seal all ends and seams with scotch tape)
Step 3: Address package as follows:
UbiSoft Worldwide Headquarters
28 Rue Armand Carrel
93 108 Montreuil Cedex
Step 4: Drive to your local post office, hand package to clerk and pay postage as requested.

Not too difficult, and I think that will solve the problem nicely.

JD

Could you point me the part where he insults the game or the devs or the company? :hmm:

I suspect getting the ports solved will still be dissapointing. Online play is not the game's strong point and those who only play online games will have an expectation higher than this game can deliver as it was not the focus of the game but a minor feature. Most who have tried it still complain. It's NOT EVE!

An archetype of negative Kentucky Fried Mole type people who think somehow their negativism is going to detract from the greatest submarine simulation franchise in history. Although I don't "doubt his habilities" (Kentucky Fried Mole quote) even his great "habilities" won't influence me to help as long as he persists in his attitude. When someone like this surfaces he can change that attitude or forget about getting any help. We've had enough of this broken record. Some people are not worthy of help.

That being said, if he looks around, realizes he is wrong and asks for help like a human being, not passing judgment from a lofty position of ignorance, my attitude would change also. But if we reward insolence, we will get more of it. I, for one, won't be bashful in urging that we don't reward troublemakers. Someone who leads off with "How can I give SH4 back to UBI because multiplyer won't work yet. A game that can't played online is worthless." is not asking for help, he's displaying his posterior.

To quote STEED, "use the search function" and learn the error of your ways. Five minutes will show you that many play the game online with no problem. Therefore, you are the problem. Ask nicely and we'll help you fix it. Otherwise leave.

I should quit beating around the bush and just state my opinion.:rotfl:

I have never encountered a DSL modem yet that does not have either a web interface, or a telnet/console interface, and most have both. How else do you set it up to connect to your given ISP?

Yours may have come from your ISP ready to connect, but I'd bet money that there is an interface to it (http://192.1.1.1 or some such most likely, or telnet into it).

I found that statement a bit sweeping. There are lots of games out there designed for, and excellent for soliatire play. However I realize that with the increasing popularity of onlines games, games desgned for single players are probably going to become increasingly marginalized. Designing a good AI is a headache most developers would rather avoid.
