5inch AA Deckgun Round

Anyone ever notice that the AA Deckgun round does not explode near the target aircraft your trying to shot down?

The 5inch gun was used on most US warships and it was able to fire more or less a flak type charge that detonated by the aircraft do to the planes magnetic field. The smaller shell for the 5inch deck gun is the AA round.

Uhm yeah the 5"38 cal d/p gun was in common use
but it isnt the 5"25cal used on subs. the aa round
you see in the game is seemingly used on ai units
but wasnt put into the subs.

the Proximity AA shell has a small transponder in it
that emits an RF signal when the units reciever
detects the signal strength of a closely reflected
signal it is in proximity to an object and detonates.
hence the name.

most planes being made of aluminum didnt have
a significant magnetic signature magnetic anomaly
detection is used by patrol aircraft to detect subs.
the ijn made use of such a system during the war.
