Default Base gone

Am I correct in assuming if you come back from a mission and the anchor is gone then the base was taken over by the Japanese? It happened in the Philippines and it looks like it just happened again in Soerabaji (spelling?).
The last time it happened I came back from a mission and then went to Soerabaji got a refit and waited outside the Manila harbor. I figured if the Japanese took over, that would be a good place to hang out and wait....and along come two merchant ships heading for the harbor entrance. Oh, goody easy targets, but then I noticed they had US flags. Anybody ever let you know what is going on? I get all kinds of junk info but I think it would be a good idea if Ubisoft let us know when a base is not ours anymore. I sailed into manila like I owned it and almost got sunk.
Is there any way to send messages while submerged like raising an antenna like you do the periscope? Or do you have to be on the surface. I was going to transmit some warship sightings but they were too close to surface and I was out of fish.

Do your maps anchors look like this?

If so then you need to upgrade to 1.4 as the maps anchors look like this ( below ) and the Slanted anchor is your base. ( Fremantle circled in red in this mission )

When it is no longer your base it will be same as the rest of the anchors. Gotta pay attention to the anchor shapes before you come home.

You must be on the surface to transmit but you can be at "P" depth and receive.

Yes, I am upgraded to 1.4, I don't have all the red stuff on my map, but my anchors do look like that. BUT, when I returned from my first mission the anchor at Manila was gone. And I did a refit at Soerabaji, it had an anchor but not slanted, but I didn't end my mission I just needed some torpedos. Right now I am on my way back from my second mission and the anchor at Soerabaji is gone!! Edit: It was there when I left as was the one at Manila, since I had been transfered to Manila. But upon returning there is NO anchor tilted or straight.

That's odd as I've not had that happen ( yet ).
The red "Stuff" is an "air base" mod and nothing to do with the anchors.

Hopefully someone will come along soon and answer your question. Seems like a lot of the Mid East and other countries are out of the Internet due to cut cables strung along the ocean floor so some of the guys may be awhile telling any answers.

Sorry I could not be of anymore help.

Peabody: You are correct. In the early war, one of the allied-held ports in Manila is overrun by the Japanese. I noted this when I started my second campaign in the Asiatic fleet (thereby starting in that region). If you are on patrol when the overrun happens, you may get a radio message indicating what has taken place. The message will most likely point you towards one of the Australian ports (it sent me to Perth-Fremantle), saying that the old home port is too dangerous.

I'm not sure if the port ever opens back up (as the allies capture more and more territory through the war). I haven't gotten that far in my second campaign.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I didn't know about the tipped anchor, I guess I just never paid attention to it. I just knew where to go. The first career I started I had read a message about some fleets using Fremantle, but it didn't apply to me so I didn't give it much thought until you mentioned it. I over used the time compression and had destroyers all over me and died a horrible death. It was only my second mission so I hadn't saved anything. I DO NOW!
Just left Fremantle headed for the Celebes Sea to sink merchants, i just got through those islands above Australia, right where it says Flores Sea and ran smack into the biggest merchant convoy I had ever seen in this game (and I've had it two weeks ) All I had to do way "All Stop" and wait until they were right in front of me. I wish they could load torpedos faster. I had an old boat and only 4, so I sunk two with those, almost got another with my stern tubes but he was tooooo close, almost hit me. And then the pinging started so I went deep and silent and figured, like they say, "better to live to fight another day", but I sure hated to leave all that cargo behind.

Thanks again guys for the info
