Torpedoes for the Batfish
Rick, the park manager at the Batfish wants to know if there is anyone who can pick up some torpedoes in Portland and drive them down to Tulsa for the Batfish. He says the torpedoes are the Batfish's, and the problem is getting someone to get them to the Batfish. So if anyone can do it it would be greatly appreciated.
PM me and I will let Rick know if anyone can do it.

How are the torpedoes packaged? How many?
I did a quick cost of moving one torpedo via common carrier. It would run around $450.00 to transport one torpedo from Portland to Tulsa. Five day transit. The question is, once the truck arrives, do you have a way to get the crated torp off the truck? If not, can you go to the local trucking terminal in Tulsa with a pick up truck/trailer and pick it up? The terminal should be able to load you trailer with a forklift. I'm in the transportation industry. I can get this done relatively cheaply. Being that it is 1938 miles, doing a round trip with a pick up and trailer sounds like a major week long headache. Also, if you were to attempt to move this common carrier without any discounts on shipping as I get, the cost for one torp would be $910.45. So, at the very least I can get you a great discount on shipping. If the warhead is still packed with torpex....that is a whole different ball game. I suspect they are not but then again, just yesterday in MD they discovered a live round on display in a museum.

These are two Mk. 27 acoustic torpedoes and I think one Mk. 24, if I remember correctly. I posted the question to Rick on our Batfish site and linked this topic.

Ok, lets find out how they are packaged. Get some estimated weight. I'm guessing about 1200# each. Based on that the cost would be estimated at 1050.00 for all three torps door to door. Not bad really. If you decide to go this route, attempt to get the dimensions of the crates. Find out about loading at the pick up end. Do they have a forklift? See about unloading at your end. I can not use a lift gate because the crates would be much to long for a lift gate. Let me know!

Here's what was recently posted on the Batfish forum:
Quote:
I'm not familiar with a Mk. 16. I looked it up and even though it was developed late in WWII, it wasn't used until after the war and into the 1970's. It also used hydrogen peroxide as fuel.

Do you want me to get a quote to move the two torpedoes you were awarded?
