I don't know if it's because of patch 1.4, the latest ROW sound mod, or something different alltogether, but alot of times I lose the audio for a sound contact when listening at the hydrophone station. My sonar man is steadily reporting the nearest contact from several nautical miles away until it's only 1000 yards in front of me and I can't hear anything whether I'm at 150 feet depth, 100, 80, or 60. Has anybody else encountered this?

My one experience is that the sound operator is a n00b and doesn't hear the ship until it's 2000 yards away (and you can't hear anything either to counteract his incompetence). The other experience is what you said where the contact gets very close and suddenly the sound op says there's no contact. In this case, I can spin the hydrophone and reacquire the target manually.
Sometimes the DD's will stop engines for a while and listen for you. Are you running TM mod?

This has been a problem with stock from the very beginning i think. I could be mistaken, but this problem may have been inheirted from Sh3. I remember in that game id have a similar problem i fixed by swapping the active sonar man with another, and increasing TC a little bit, and it ironed itself out.

Actually, my sonar man is hearing the contact just fine and is reporting him like a pro. The problem is that I'm not getting any engine sounds of the contact when I manually go to the hydrophone station and listen for myself. I've not had this problem before. Oh, and I'm not running TM. I'm running the ROW sound mod. Not that it's a big deal to uninstall the sound mod, but this problem doesn't occur every time so I want to ask around about it before experimenting.

Me too Letterboy. Useing ROW Sound as well. Sometimes I'll hear the contact one minute, then it'll just disappear. Other times I'll only pick up one engine noise out of several ships visable. |

I've had this problem as well. Still running 1.3, and ROW (including Sounds). But the problem persists even after I disable ROW Sound. I had made a list of the ships that lack the hydrophone sound, but I misplaced it somewhere
