time to buy another copy?
Yesterday I had taken the risky decision ( I thought) to go pay Hull a visit, since the North Sea was apparently devoid of life, but apart from passing a stationary tug and a light boat, there wasn't a vessel anywhere to be seen. Hmph. Nor did the shore batteries take any notice of me when I tootled by in broad daylight ( I just wanted to see what would happen). Having got back to the open sea and ordered a sharp left turn to make way to Hartlepool, I took me seaboots off and got some zeds. So, tonight I was keen to get back on patrol tonight to see what next bit of mischief I could get into.
Wahh, did I get a scare - I put the disk in the drive but couldn't get past the copy protection, which has never happened before.Tried several times, and in both drives, but no. Then I took disk out and examined and found a finger splodge, so wiped that off - and noticed quite a few scratches. Well the disk was fine after that, so must have been the finger dab, but the scuffs and scratches worry me, and I think perhaps I ought to buy another copy of the game. Thing is, if I do that, and run it, will I have to put a new key in, and does THAT mean I would have to do the whole fresh install and then load GWX 2.0 all over again (oh no!), OR can I simply copy the new key data to the registry OR can I buy SH3, in the UK, without copy protection? I ask this because my other favourite game(s) which is the X-series space sims from Egosoft, have had the copy protection removed (same as this, Starforce, I think) once a decent amount of time has gone by since the launch, so wondered if Ubisoft might do the same..?:hmm: |

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that the installation is disc-specific and that you need to have the disc from which the files were installed in the drive. SInce I use a desktop and a laptop I was tempted to pay a few pounds for a second copy I saw in PC World last week, but couldn't face having to uninstall everything and start over - So where I go, there goes my single copy of SH3.

I did wonder if I could copy it on to the hard drive or create a backup clone, but I suspect not....I will get another disk and be done with it! Yus!
Hope I get the same key, like you Mush ![]() ps. Just went to Amazon.co.uk, and there are new copies available, in the 'new and used' section, starting at about £3.00!! So, got one. That is that sorted, I hope.. ![]() |

Side issue: I had to 'replace" my copy of SH3 as it was in my HD when I had a pc incident. I contacted ubisoft and for $10 they sent me a replacement CD.
