Default Night Sky

Out in the middle of the South Pacific, the night sky is filled by the Milky Way from horizon to horizon. It is absolutely breathtaking, and almost makes two weeks of port & starboard steaming liveable. Well, almost. I would take every opportunity to get out and gaze up at it.

Great effort is made in SHIV to make the daylight scenes as real as possible, They do a nice job and it brings back fond memories. But the night sky is lacking. Even the moon seems un-likely.

Comin up to recharge batteries at night, do DC repairs and get a breath of fresh air in enemy waters would certainly be more plesant with a real ocean's sky, don't ya think?

Can this be done?

Or...

How do I go about learning to do it myself?

Apparently this game is designed for modding. So where do I start to learn about it?

Well, just read some of the mod threads and [TEC] threads. Depends on what you are wanting to mod. You may find some tips here and there.

Get you the Silent3ditor from this thread here --> http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=119571
and play around with some values of some .dat files (scene.dat ?). But always backup those files first. You could easily mess up your game.
