Default Light shafts

Hi,

Am i the only one who has some grapical problems with the option "light shafts"?
If this option is checked i get these really strange effects at the sky at night (during the day everything looks normal)
I have a new pc 'dual core 2.66, 2gb DDR4, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (320 MB) and running XP service pack2

Drivers for the Geforce are the latest ones.

Except for this problem (it looks like strange light reflections at the sky during the night) i also see some strange effects at night, it's hard to describe (no, it isn't visible in any screenshot strangely enough) but it looks like i am running the game with a very poor and old graphics card, all the gradients between colors are very poor.
The gradients are really visible in some different steps, instead of that they are nice and fluid. (like i said, hard to explain)

This second problem is also there if i uncheck the "light shafts" option.
I took some digital photo's because the problems don't show on any screenshot, i'll post them tomorrow.

Thanks aleady! (it's driving me nuts )

When I first installed SH4 and put in the 1.3 patch I played many missions before I put in any mods. I noticed this same effect you describe at night. It appeared to be god rays/light rays in the night sky when I was on the deck looking around. It only appeared to be outside, no problems with inside shots. It had my attention a little, but the game was new to me and had no idea if that was normal.

I slowly installed ROW mods one at a time to see what they did and how they changed the game. I eventually got to the whole thing. I can't recall if I still saw them or not after ROW mod. I took all my mods out to install path 1.4 then threw in the ROW mods and the light rays at night are gone. What the hell I did that made them go away is beyond me and yes my light rays box is checked. I'm a big fan of the graphics of this game so I monitor what I have graphics set at. Perhaps the post-filter processing? (think that what it's called) Not sure what this would do to the night sky or if it has an affect at all on this situation.

If you narrow the problem down, let us know. Like I said, I had them once and I noticed it exactly like you did. Now I don't have it. I didn't adjust any graphics card settings with NVIDIA software. I think I installed the ROW mods in the order the creator posted in his thread, where as I did it recklessly before.

Take care

Default Thanks

SemperFi,

Thanks for your respons!
Indeed, it is only visible at night outside the boat.
Inside the boat and during the day this problem does not occur.
I have "post process filters" on.
With this option unchecked the problem remains although it is less visible because the contrast is less then.
Anyway, when i check the option "light shafts" is is even worse.
I had this with patch 1.3 and now with patch 1.4.
I'll try it out with the mods and let you know if i find out what the problem causes (hope i ever will find out!!!)

Regards,
fvd

my system which i havent long built is identical to yours and im havin these light/flickering probs as well. since the patch came out, i started a game with TM, RSRD, depth charge splash and NSM and had these issues

im just gonna try a game now without any mods and see if i can narrow down whats causing it

I have exact same system--only with vista. I have the God Rays too, at night. God Moon Rays, I guess. Now I'm starting to think they are clouds. I figured it was a "feature"--though not a very good one, at night. I have only RSRD mod, and final sound pack mod.

BTW, I'm also having a REALLY annoying light flickering problem as well--and I KNOW it's not a feature! It's like, a very quick flashing of the entire ocean when I'm on the bridge.

I worked on the light shafts for ROW to be more subtle and used it to create a better underwater effect.

In ROW you can turn on the light shafts (I recomend it with row ) and still you are not seeing the light rays from the sky as you do in stock SH4
