If I remember things correctly...I would be scared of the Typhoon more than anything else...as it was designed as a tank buster...however, it has been many a year since I studied it and I could be wrong...

Yes! The Typhoon was a ground attack/close support aircraft. 20mm cannons and carried up to 8 Rockets...very nasty but not really practical for subhunting due to relatively short range.

At least the Tempestskin is from the game Il2. I asked Testpilot if he did this skin himself and not stealed it. I got no answer.
Some maybe remember who Testpilot is....

IIRC both the Tempest/Typhoon came from the same stable, both were in fact designed as fighters but were used extensively for ground attack with both able to use rockets and fitted with 20mm cannon. The XXII Spitfire, a dedicated fighter, also had cannons and they fire where the nose points.

Allthough they did have short range I wouldn't want to get caught by any of these whilst on the surface Flak Boot or otherwise

AFAIK you are correct there the Typhoon and Tempest were designed as intercepters to replace the the Hurricane in the anti-bomber role (probably why they pack 4 20mm cannon). The Typhoon was a disapointment in its designed role and by the time the Tempest was coming off the production lines the need for a plane to knock down bombers was largely gone.

The Typhoon, however, excelled in the ground attack role it was strong and its 20mm cannon made it a potent weapon. The Tempest could attain quite high speeds and was used along with Spitfires, Mustangs and Meteor jet fighters to shoot down V1 flying bombs.

[EDIT as a foot note to this, when the RAF came to name the new Eurofighter the 'Typhoon' there was a little controversy. It was felt that the name might have been offensive to Germany, as the original Typhoon became a much hated adversary of the German army. In the battles around Falaise, 1944, the Typhoon was responsible for massive destruction and the deaths of many German soldiers]
