Default Deck guncrew just wont open fire!!!

Intercepted a convoy outbound from Gibraltar on apr19-40. Managed to sink one war ship 10k+ in a sub attack. Later same night I closed in on the surface just behind the escorting corvette and launched 2x2 eels in 2 pyro ships hitting both. Made a 180 turn and watched the corvette searching in vain behind me. Circled around and nailed one from behind in bringing him to a complete stop. Went to periscope depth and waited an hour or so. Then surfaced to finish him of with the deck gun. Now the problems begins. I assign deck crew to the gun, put my gunner officer in charge and order the deckofficer to open fire at will. He confirms my order but does he submit the order to his guncrew - NO! I open the wepon controll window to assign ammo to the gun. Still silence, Im ordering fire on closest target, fire at will, get the confirmation but still silent. It is not untill I take charge of the gun my self and pull the *********g trigger personally things start to happen. Then I can hand over to my gunner and he continues to fire at the target.:hmm:

Well, first take a deep breath. Things could be worse. At least your deck gun will fire.

Are you running any mods?

Did you select a target using the binocs? Point them at the ship then hit spacebar to target that ship. Also what distance and target type did you select? If these are not right they won't fire on the target unless you do what you did.

Im running GWX. When I surfaced my deck crew could not, I could though, see the target so when we got closer I got the usual Ship spotted sign asking if I wanted to engage, maintain or dive. I answered engage. BUT I was going decksawash at that time. The gun was manned anyhow only they did not open fire. It could be that they did not have a clear sight, but why the shipspotted sign in that case?

When you run decks awash the gun will not fire if the crew's feet are getting wet. You have to fully surface for them to operate the gun. If water is on deck they will even delay loading until the deck is clear of water.

If you saved before attacking, reload and try again fully surfaced and you should see a difference in behaviour.
