SENATE OVERRIDES BUSH'S WATER BILL VETO:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/...ter/index.html "Bush spiked the measure Friday despite its overwhelming bipartisan support, calling it too costly and complaining that the 900 projects it authorized would overtax the Army Corps of Engineers." I think Dubb-Ya should re-assess his concept of "too costly". ![]() Sen. Barbara Boxer, a Democrat from California who was responsible for shepherding the bill through the Senate, said the Senate was sending the president a message: "You should respect the Senate, the House, the Congress and American people because we are elected, too," Boxer said. "We are close to the people. We know what their needs are." You tell 'em Barbara... ![]()

Gee, they trash him for not vetoing then they trash him for vetoing...
![]() Boxer sure does seem to know "the people's needs" all right. That's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

That bill was pathetic - full of special interest. I ticks me off I have to pay for those projects when they are just going to have a catastrophy again.
Only problem is, when you want to get re-elected in this country, you spend money. THat is all this bill is doing. Hard to tell your consituents to back off spending when its in their own back yard. What a waste. Bush was right to veto this damn bill. Besides, who is going to build it? The Army Corps of Eng's are backlogged with over 50 projects! Way to make it worse! -S |

Id be more sympathetic to bush if he didnt try to get those rattletrap mexican truckers full access to our highways. That incident alone said loudly where his priorities are, his special interest. Lame duck or not, hes only looking after his own at this point. Looking back, if his name wasn't "Bush", i don't think he'd have gotten as far as he has. Riding on the coat tails of his fathers name, and his legacy as president and VP during the regan years.

Well, I'm glad to see it got through anyway for two reasons: First it showed bi-partisan support. First time in a LONG time that I've seen both parties get together and support an effort instead of trying to rip each other's throats out (politically speaking).
Secondly, I'm happy to see some of my tax $$$ going to projects that will *eventually* benefit Americans... Month after month the "Iraqi Bottomless Pit" get fed billions in US $$$.... Corp of Engineers problem? Train and employ more engineers and construction people. Good for the economy...

The military acutally has ALOT of engineers, trouble is, they're all deployed. Little known fact, is that all military engineering is subjected to the army Corp of engineers standards or approval. Even in the AF, its not uncommon to see a blueprint with the little corp of engineers symbol (castle) located somewhere on the print.
And yeah, we SERIOUSLY need to start spending more at home, and less on other peoples problems (or causing them as the case in Iraq may be). I wonder how much our goverment spends on our own people as compaired to how much is poured into international venues. |
