Default Chinese Takeout - need some tips

I need some help with Chinese Takeout, a mission I downloaded from Subguru.

I closed to within 12 nm of the Xia, let her pass behind me, and fired a torp at her. Unfortunately the helos detect the launch and quickly dart to my location whereby they sniff me out with active pings followed by a torpedo launch. It's shallow water so there's nowhere to run and hide and the max speed I can do without cavitating is 15 knots at 130 feet.

After several more tries I was able to successfully avoid detection by the helos by launching my torpedo at a longer range and clearing the datum at 15 knots, but even then it was a VERY narrow escape.

Ah, yes. I love this scenario. I usually stay close to some of the merchant ships and let their noise drown out my signature. I've gotten to within 1 Nm using other merchant ships as an acoustic mask. Last time I played this scenario, I went underneath one merchant and used my HF sonar to stay under it. The helos never came looking for me and I got away unscathed after completing the main objective.

Heh that's pretty good. I'll have to give that a go.

Chinese Takeout was my first scenario creation for Sub Command, later converted to Dangerous Waters. I'm happy to know you guys are still enjoying it.
