Hi all and thanks in advance,
I've been playing SH4 for several months now with JSGME and individual mods. Many people have stated the Trigger Maru packs are the best so I decided to go in that directioin. Captains LOG: -complete uninstall of any traces of SH4 and Mods -new install of SH4 -patch to 1.3 -install JSGME and update to latest version 1.7 -install Trigger Maru GFX -install Trigger Maru 1.6 -install Trigger Maru 1.62 As far as the performance and graphics go, everything is very very good. However, I can go for days (game time) without any contacts. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or if that's the way it's supposed to be. I've read all the FAQs and Features stuff that I could find on the Trigger Maru packs but didn't see anything about not finding anything to shoot at. Could someone give me a hint as to why my SH4 is completely boring after the TM patches? |

TM includes Tater's campaign layers mod. It's meant to be more historically accurate in the amount of vessels cruising around the Pacific i.e. it lowers the amount.
I'd like to see just a bit more traffic than it has, myself, but the good thing is he's fixed some strange convoys like various ones leaving enemy-controlled ports and fixed some of the screwy contents of them too. *If I can find a download for an older TM version I can revert it back to the previous setup where -I think- there were a few more convoys, though still less than stock where you can't help but step on them. It seems I nuked my older versions of TM awhile back. I'll see if I can get this in a newer TM Lite mod. Variety is a good thing.

According to Tater you won't find traffic coming to and from territories until the Japanese capture them, then the traffic picks up considerably. Example: You won't be seeing lots of Japanese shipping in the Java sea until after they take Java and Borneo. Late 42 thru early 44 should be the best times to find the enemy.
That being said, sometimes I find the lack of traffic a little too boring myself.. I may custom mod my game with all the goodies in TM seperately so I can pull the layers mod out when I just want a turkeyshoot. |

He's right, you might want to stick through a career first and see how it's working out.

A big thing is also the very reduced contact reports for the first 2-3 months. I'm going over all of that at some point to alter it a little (some with more, some with fewer reports).
The traffic is also moved from stock a little. Early war traffic is empire waters, empire-formosa/china, empire-palau, empire-truk. As they take southern areas, the traffic picks up in southern areas. You won't find merchants in the java sea when they have yet to invade. If you see that the japanese just took X, then soon after, X will have traffic. (some might have traffic right around the capture date). Part of the problem is the patrols, they are stock, and somewhat randomly dropped on the map because the stock game has traffic so close together you can jump from ship to ship without touching water. |

I found that TM 1.5 offered me just the right balance I was looking for and I have therefore stayed with it. I think that sometimes people get the latest version of a mod just because it's the latest version of a mod. Sometimes I think it's better to step back and say..."You know what, I like this just the way it is".
I run TM 1.5 and about three small mods and i'm really happy with the gameplay experience. |

Ok, things seem to be going pretty well I guess. I like the limited air contacts for sure. It's just annoying having to shoot down the planes all the time.
One problem still remains. Without patches, while sailing under time compression, the game would slow down your time compression to 1x when a contact was identified. With TM 1.6 and or 1.62, you just fly right by without a chance to engage. Does anyone have a tip for this other than disabling the TM1.6? Does this behavior also show up in TM1.5? Thanks |

ddales, there's a .cfg you can manually change. However I doubt TM introduced such behaiviour. My TM 1.6.2 drops out of TC automatically when an enemy is contacted. This is a bit funky at max sensor range (i.e. when the enemy is at the edge of your visual screen and you also have some other means of detecting him (sonar, radar).

I realized yesterday that the contacts that blow by during a time compression run must be friendly contacts. When an enemy contact is identified it knocks the time compression down to 8x.
Thanks for the reply |

The first thing I do after installing a fresh copy is change that to 1x.
