Default Simple Question: VIIB or VIIC

Ahoy, Kaleuns! I'm in Mid '40, with my pretty VIIB and now, BdU offers me the brand new VIIC... What do you think I should do? Stick with my ol' boote, or change it for a brand new class? THX A LOT!!!

i ran the Type VIIB U-46 until about late 1940, then I upgraded to the U-471 Type VIIC after that. there is not much of a difference at first, but later on the type VIIC has far more upgrades then the Type VIIB does

Change Flotilla and invest in a Type IX.
If you're going to upgrade do something radical.

Well as radical as Bdu will allow.

VIIC

More goodies...
Dives faster...

The speed differential is a non-issue.

In terms of performance the VIIB is a tad quicker and more agile, but it's also more fragile, and you can't dive as deep. The type VIIC has a little more range as well as a slightly deeper depth limit at the cost of abit of surface speed and a negligable reduction in submerged speed. You'll have more oppertunities with the VIIC since you can travel further with it.

Also ,as others correctly mentioned, You have more upgrades available with the VIIC. So while you have a quicker and more agile boat, it may cost you that extra tonnage later as it's merits quickly become irrelevant since you can't dive as deep and lacking upgrades.

I myself prefer the type IX's and usually save my renown for those. More torpedoes and better a better AA arrangement. Though it's submerged performance does leave abit to be desired. It's also tougher with a much higher inventory of torpedoes. I like to take out the escorts first if I can, then pummel some ships with the 105mm deck gun. It's risky but the potential for tonnage is there with that boat. It's all a question of what your style and preferences.
