It seems like the SD and SJ radar's are linked!
If you move the radar beam of the SJ over a contact(s), and then glance to your left, you will see that the contact(s) also show up on your SD, giving you a rough range to target. (I have a couple of images, but I dont know how to upload them, but I could mail them to anyone interrested.) Could somebody mod the radar screens so we can get: - accurate (readable) range to target, - accurate (readable) bearing to target. (I really, really miss the silent hunter I radars) This could, make the radar the powerfull instrument it was! Because you could accuratly plot targets many miles away, giving you oodles of time to get into a good attack possition. (Saves fuel too.) I think this is on no way a cheat, or an exploit. Beeing an ex sailor, and having worked with old, 1940's radars, I know accurate plotting was and is definetly possible! (I know 'cause I've done it myself). In RL you'd need a plot table, of course, but you can also do it on the ingame map. |

Radar was certainly a primary way of feeding ranges and building TDC solutions.

Yeah, it's a real bummer that RADAR isn't all it could (and should) be. We should be notified of type of contact, range and bearing. There should be buttons as there are for sonar.

Actually, thats something I dont really mind. All I want is a radar I can use. Now, all it does is tell you that there is 'something' in 'roughly that direction', at 'roughly that distence'. |

Just a little side note about the radar that I realized the other day when tinkering around:
Above the A-Scope is a bearing indicator, but it isn't really seen with stock camera values. This dial shows the relative bearing as well as the true bearing, but the true bearing part only works sometimes for me, probably for the same reason that the compass in the conning tower only works sometimes too. If you wanna check this out, you can see part of the dial when at the hydrophone station; take a look to the right while the radar operator is sweeping, and you should be able to see the dial move, atleast part of it. But if you wanna actually be able to read it, you'll have to change the angle value in Cameras.dat. I changed the Axis Rotation Properties for both radar stations to Max=45, and when I look up from the A-Scope, checking the bearing is no problem. ![]() |

Good idea Sockeye(!), that takes care of the bearing.
Now all we need is accurate ranging. |
