Default Promotion of officers

I searched the forums to find out how to let go of some of your senior officers to commander training. I'm using SH3Cmdr and I don't see any options for that. Do I just dismiss them in the game if I want them to get their own command?

To promote them, just click on them in Commander and change their rank.

For command training, don't worry. Commander will tell you from time to time that someone is ready, and ask if you want to let him go.

I do have 3 guys for whom the commander is saying that I should think about letting them go. The question is, how do I do that?

Before your next patrol, just transfer them to barracks and select a new guy. At least I think I remember that's how you have to do it. It's been awhile since I could play.

Thanks. Do you do the transfer by using commander or within the actual game?

Where SH3Cmdr has suggested that an officer be replaced, you can release him from within SH3Cmdr. Just click the "Autofix" button and "Yes" at the confirmation message.

You can then replace him from within SH3.

(People have asked why a released crewman isn't replaced directly from within SH3Cmdr. My reasoning there is that it would allow players too much freedom to create a "designer" crew, which goes against the fundamental principals of SH3Cmdr.)

Don't EVER dismiss them, unless you want a crew of rookies...

Best they stay with you until the end... OR if Bernard converts them to his... own special ways... yeh...

Thanks guys. I'm quite torn in whether to let go some of my officers or not. Perhaps I'll keep them in this career as it is my first one in GWX. I need all the help I can get and excellent officers would certainly be very helpful.
