[REQ][TEC] Vista and SH4
Hi there Chaps and Chapesses, Am having a lot of trouble, having upgraded to VISTA HOME PREMIUM, probably my own misunderstanding. However I do not seem to be able to get JSGME to load into SH4 completely. I get everything BUT the MOD folder. I have had to reduce resolution to 1280x720, normal working 1280x1024pixels, to stop SH4 crashing out. Best to give you wonderful Technocrats a run down of the system as it stands today, in the hope that someone will put me right............
Vista Home Premium on an HP Media Center m7630 uk System Type X86-based PC Processor Intel Core Duo 64000@1.3GHz 800Mhz Video Card X1950 Pro ATI Tech RealTek HD Audio Memory 3.5GB SM BIOS version 2.4 system directory C:\system 32 BIOS version Phoenix Tech 3.08, 18/09/2006 There is plenty of FREE SPACE in both Memory and HD. I do believe I have installed all MS Updates and updated all Drivers, cleaned HD, Defragged, etc though somehow I have lost the icon for the Recycle Bin on the desktop !!!! Your genuine assistance would be so very very much appreciated.........Dusty

You really should read the JSGME help file, it's there to, umm, help you.

Btw, the easiest way I've found to bypass this "file virtualization" is to simply install SH4 in some other directory outside "Program Files". I used "C:\Silent Hunter 4", for example. Or use "C:\Games\SH4". Anything, as long as it's not in "Program Files".
That bypasses this "file virtualization" that MS has tossed into Vista. Not to join the MS bashing bandwagon, but this "feature" appears to be an afterthought... and really isn't worthwhile, especially if it can be bypassed so easily. |

[REQ][TEC] Vista and SH4
May I please thank all of you for your help. One additional thing, if I may not encroach upon your generosity..........Having had your inputs I would now like to re-install Vista and start fresh (especially with your added know how).....Can I just put the disc in again or do I have to go back to XP and go from there. I have the Recovery Discs made to do the latter.......many many thanks again .....Dusty
