Silent Hunter 2 graphics problem

I've noticed a graphics problem with SH2 on my new system. Some text is not present, or distorted. This affects both the game menus and some displays in the sim. An example can be seen here:

Has anyone else noticed this, and is a fix known? I tried various patch versions and graphics settings without success. One possible clue is this old thread:

I have an 8800, so going back to older drivers is impossible.

I always thought this was a transitory problem. The most up to date Nvidia drivers of the time ( 2004/5?) caused the problem but the later versions did not have the problem.

Well, the problem seems to be back. Perhaps it's still OK in later versions of those drivers, but the GeForce 8 series of video cards uses a different driver than previous Nvidia cards (new opportunity for them to repeat old mistakes I guess).

I'm having this same problem now in my new computer, and it is a Geforce NVIDIA 8500 card. Tried some old drivers, and latest as well, but nothing seems to work.

I just can't move around the menus

. I'll miss SH2, Pacific Aces and Destroyer Command

.

PD: as a bonus, it also doesn't let me use Fighting Steel... bloody modern computers .

Reopening this thread to see if anyone had a fix. I have a Windows XP machine and a Nvidia 9500GT card and have the identical problem. Using SH2 patched to v1.1.
