How about playing it when I have time and still enjoying it.

Its definatly not the same as when I first got it. After all its been patched and modified so in some ways its better.

But then I am patiently waiting on 1.3 to.

This poll has too many pidgeonholes.

I'm playing it despite the fact that getting from Bismark Sea back to Pearl takes 50 minutes real time - at a constant 16knots

That's what I get for havign a sub-par system (below minimum specs). I'm still playing but only occasionally. Waiting for my new rig next week

Playing and enjoying it. But that is due to mods fixing some of the more glaring issues. As a former die-hard Battlefield player (the entire series, except 2142 naturally) I find this game very rewarding in a sense that fast FPS do not. That is not to say I do not enjoy some FPS action now and again, but I still feel drawn toward doing "just another patrol" in SH4.

And between doing some mayhem in fast FPS MP CoD2 or slow sim SH4, it comes down to time really. If I got all the time in the world, SH4 wins. If I gotta go within a couple of hours, MP CoD2 wins. Or just idling on the net, surfing and whatnot.

But now it is summer, and I find my playing computer games time seriously infringed upon by more pressing needs such as hanging with friends out in the sun. And after that in some bar or club or whatever.

Oh, and I won't vote on the poll, since there is no option for:

- Not enough hours in a given week to play it as much as I'd like too...

Passion for playing SH4

As a retired old Navy horse I still play it a few hours a day. (Like the first day).

Getting better all the time

When I first bought SH4 and found myself in the middle of a cow feces throwing fight between Sony and Mark Russinovich I was pretty disgusted with UBI for using a copy protection scheme which does not allow a computer to run a program (Process Explorer) just because of who the author is, not because it is useful to illegal disk copying. I was ready to sell the game on eBay.

But I made the mistake of uninstalling Process Explorer and trying the game. It is an absolute hoot to play and the longer I play, the better I like it. Sure, I'm looking forward to whatever improvements come with patch 1.3, but I don't think it is fatally flawed at all. I believe mostly those with stability problems are playing with marginal machines (less than 2 gb of memory, older graphics cards, Windows Vista (hehehe) etc). For me the game has been rock steady with no CTD's at all and no save game problems similar to SH3.

I'm running an AMD Athlon 3700+, 2 gb OCZ go-fast memory and 2 EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB graphics cards in an SLI configuration (saved me a bundle over one 8800 card and runs like a scalded dog). So I sacrificed processor speed for graphics and have a sub $1000 machine that runs either Silent Hunter with graphics WFO.

I'm looking forward to improvements in the game, but far more important are improvements in myself as I progress toward running both games on full reality settings. SH3 with GWX is ultimate training for dealing with destroyers. If you can survive that, you'll prosper easily in SH4. I'm having a great time and recommend both simulations highly.

I took a hiatus from the game while repairing my system. Playing once a week or a little more eight now (work schedule is interfering). But when the patch gets here, will probably spend a lot more time gaming, hopefully to shakeout the patch, and then to really enjoy all the systems functioning.

But I do love this game.
