Your PC Specs should do fine with GWX.

When the PC freezes, can you do anything. I.e exit to windows via the windows key or Alt+Tab.

Does the game dump you to the desktop?

Is there any error message when the PC restarts?

Can you feel excessive heat from your PC?

I fear a hardware failure.

SH3 cannot to make your PC lock up like that.... It may provoke the problem, but it cannot cause it.
A hard lock like that is either a buggy device driver (most likely), overheating or other hardware problem (also quite likely) or a bug in windows (quite unlikely, believe it or not.)

Since you have already tried updating DirectX and your graphics drivers, I'd suspect you have an overheating problem - especially as it happens after you've been playing for a while. Open your case and vacumn (carefully!) any dust out from around your CPU and GPU heatsinks. Also you could try running with the case open. Be cautious about touching the heatsinks while you are playing to see if that is the problem, you may burn yourself.

Another thing to try is updating your sound card drivers.

Hope you fix it.. Best of luck

Default Tanks

I tried upgrade drivers but my computer stil freez complety (without any option other then reset)

After I open my compyter to clean heatsinks i find terrible truth about graphic card fan - i don't have one !

So this freezing could by some hardwere build in safety feature?

Check to make sure your cooling fan and heatsink are clear.

....also disable any programmes that are running in the background...thereby freeing vital computer resources

The fan is usually incorporated into the Graphics card. The other option is to purchase a fan [zalman etc] that you can install relatively easily that will prevent your Graphics card from overheating.
