So last night I installed GWX. Uh oh.
![]() First of all, I love the new sounds! They are awesome. I love the background crew noises. I love the scream of "Alaaaarm" whem you crash dive. ![]() But I'm having all kinds of graphics problems now, and they get worse the longer I play, until the game crashes out. The first thing I noticed is I went up on the bridge and my Watch Officer's hat extended up into the sky, while the brim of his hat extended off into the horizon. Then the seawater started to change color. Basically it looked as if there were pink sheets of paper floating in the ocean all around us. Then I went into the Command Room and you could see nothing. All geometry had, it seems "exploded", and the spikes of it make it look like you were inside of a crystal or something. Then I sighted a ship, and when you looked at it through the periscope likewise its geometry turned it into a sharp-edged chunk of triangles with a smokestack. Then all of the other graphics started to have little glowing blue flecks all over the screen - on the crew uniforms, around control panels, etc. Eventually, the game crashed. I'm going to try a complete uninstall/reinstall. |

![]() ![]() Sounds like a graphics card driver problem, maybe you should check for latest drivers? |

Maillemaker, is this just an SH3 problem or does it happen with other games also? |

SOunds like it could be a failing gfx card as well.

sounds like a Bad Driver
or that your GFX card is overcooking himself (the Heat)

I think it might have been a thermal issue. Last night I used some compressed air and blew off all the heat sinks etc. The game ran fine all night, only crashing to BSD when I went to exit the game for the night.
I forget the graphics card, it's an ATI something-or-other. I bought the system as a complete system about 5 years ago. It's an Emachine T6000 with an AMD 3200+ 64 bit processor, 512MB RAM (need to upgrade), some ATI graphics card, yadda yadda. Steve |

Well I have well and truly fixed the problem, I think. Couldn't convince da wife to let me buy a new computer, but I did buy a new graphics card, an ATI X1950. I don't know if it's a good card or not, but it was the most expensive AGP graphics card on the shelf at Best Buy, so I took it. I also got another 512MB of RAM bringing my system up to 1GB of memory. The processor itself is an AMD 3200+ 64bit processor. I figure that's still a lot of oomph even today. Also, since there was a place for it in my case, I went and installed another 80mm exhaust fan to help keep things cool.
