Default Anyone use XP x64 and gone back to XP?

I've been using XP x64 Pro for a couple of years now (SH3 worked fine ) and am now due to re-install the OS. From what I understand, SH4 works on both x32 and x64 OS's without having to mess around to get it to work in the latter. Though it seemed many of my apps worked much faster/smoother on x64, one thing I didn't like was not having the video driver selection to optimize games as is with x32 users.

Has anybody run SH4 in both OS's? Which one ran better? Thanks

Me!!!! I hate x64. Going to wipe it off another laptop soon. Its biggest issue is lack of drivers which results from forced driver signing by Microsoft (Its a way they are forcing DRM down your throat). No one wants to write drivers when they have to pay MS to check them out in a lab. I now have 10 unused copies on my desk because of it.

I've avoided 64bit XP and all flavors of Vista for this reason. Lack of drivers and support. That and that Vista's game perfomance is worse than XP's right now. I'll consider Vista (maybe even 64bit) after DX10 and more that a couple of games are released. For now XP does everything I need it to and has the driver support.

100% false.

There is no requirement for Microsoft to sign drivers via the WHQL certification process. There is a requirement to acquire a code signing certificate from a public Certificate Authority, such as Verisign (unless you want force your users to have to hit F8 each time they boot).

I have the 158.xx drivers from nVidia installed on my Vista x64 box. They have not gone through the WHQL process but do have a code signing certificate attached to them.

Thanks. Interesting about the driver signing. Vista? Nah, just XP x64 Pro. The only reason I would consider Vista is DX10 as SinisterDexter mentioned. I'm only referring to XP x64 vs XP (x32) and SH4's performance in the two OS's. So far XP x64 has been a much faster and efficient OS for most everything else. But I've got another PC for the everyday home crap, this one is for SH4 hence the dilema.

Sorry Subman1, just noticed the 'Me!!!'. Meaning you have indeed run SH4 on both XP and XPx64 and you prefer to run it on XP (x32)?

I previously had 32bit Windows 2003 Server Enterprise, but I went to XP 64 bit to take advantage of my 64bit instruction when I got the new motherboard and CPU.

Only downside I had was I had to replace the webcam with a compatible one. But even though my webcam was pretty old, I was glad to have a better one anyway.

All my games SHIII and others work smooth in XP 64.

I am just frustrated that dx 10 wont be available for XP 64.

IssanRanger,

I am at a loss as to how to get sh3 to run in win xp x64. After installing the sim, I launched it and it gave me an error.

"This application can be launched with a release version of microsoft windows 95, osr2.1/98/me/nt4.0/xp/server 2003 only."

I've tried all of the compatibility modes to run the program but everyone of them resulted with the same error. Any links or a step by step setup would be appreciated.

Cheers

SH 3 works fine on my XP 64bit and SH4 works (in as much as it can be said to work in its current state).

I'm happy with XP 64bit.

I, um, kinda like Vista.

Seems to work pretty well now, after some fiddling with it.

Sh4 runs fine on my Xp64 rig.

My only problem is like others.. drivers... my steering wheel I use for pedals in flight sims doesn't have 64 bit drivers so I need a new one.
