Ok screw this...

I bought SH4 about 3 days ago, been playing it ever since. But I can never get past 1-2 patrols without my sub breaking itself or being destroyed. I'm not sure but I've been through 4 careers with 1-2 patrols each. But seriously this game is too broken.

Let me say after this last partol I just did, it was my breaking point. I'm coming home and I'm low on fuel. I mean 10% remaining I'm trying to make it to midway to refit. I've been attacked by planes even tho there is no visible damage on my sub I've lost some bulkheads and took on some flooding. Now that I'm out of range from aircraft, I ran on top to do repairs. After that was done I went to periscope depth during the day and recharge at night. Some time during the day, about 1500 miles off the coast of midway islands, My sub destroyed itself for no reason. I check the co2 level and it was only at 10% WTF! I've been surfacing at night and and diving in the day and been doing this last 5 days *in-game* why now?

Some how I survived and get court-martial.

The endings suck, its funny how your boat was destroyed but your boat survives long enough to get to port and HQ gives you a new one or you get court-martial for destroying it. Wheres the option that you actually DIE or get taken as a PoW? Oh yeah did I mention you don't get a choice to choose what class replacement you'll get?

The missions just suck, oh I have to sneak in and take photos of enemy harbors? Sure, in very, very shallow water. I mean theres only 2 feet between the backbone of my sub and the sea floor. Shouldn't this mission qualify for smaller subs and not my tambor or gar class sub? But I do like the dropping off the agent at this location

Stuff on my sub just get damaged for no reason, I would be sailing and all sudden "Flak Gun Damaged Sir!" "Deck gun Damaged Sir!" "Radar Damaged Sir"

The sounds repeat themselves or don't complete. Like for example I would push the key for rudders amidship and only hear RUDDER! RUDDER! or if I told it to go 5 Degrees port or Starboard all I would hear is "Rudder 05!" doesn't specify port or starboard. It can even be broken and sound like chipmunks until I pause the game and then They are fine again.

Where are my damn upgrades for my sub Where do I find out how long its going to take to repair the damage I get in battle? Whats my hull integrity, I don't know. Hell, it doesn't even need to be a number, just a color indicating the over-all damage or a excellent to horrible condition rating.

...?

I miss my interaction with the crew, the sub, and my TDC.

I miss my TDC *again* and weapons control center that I had in sh3.

Time compression is useless after 3000.

The pants on my sailors look like bell bottom pants?.. Not sure what to make of it, but damn dude!

Some of buttons stop working after awhile like "man the flak gun" or "man the deck gun" it would flash and arm but then I would never be able to get them to Unmanned the guns. All it would do is flash and stay on, So They are stuck their until they get roasted to death by the sun.

Weather? What weather? There is no dynamic weather. I look up and see clouds moving at the speed of light and I'm just at 1x? WTF AGAIN! Its like I have no weather, its sunny all the damn time!

When I'm at HQ, I've always got to reslect my guns. What I mean is I have to select bow mounting of 4' 50 Cal Deck gun and twin A&A over and over again. I can understand refitting my sub with torps but my guns?

The intro movie into the game is all poetic, Screw being sensitive its time to sink jap shipping but no.

Theres proabley more to add to this, but I have forgotten.

This is by far the worst incomplete, buggy game That I have ever bought overtaking Counter-Strike Source in my personal honest opinion. Sh3 was released in a better condition.

What the hell have the romanians' been doing?

I don't think ubisoft is going to fix the game, They will release maybe another 4-6 patches before they call it quits.

p.s: I just needed to vent my frustration on this game.

There is something curious about this paragraph. Cant quite put my finger on it.

Most of the failings you post about are well known to the devs, and i'm sure there will be a patch in the near future which resoles the major bugs,--

One thing i would like to pick up on though is this nonsense of surviving your subs demise, and either being reassigned or thrown in the brig. which airhead dreamt that one up! and the screens that go along with it stink!

you should maybe consider holding off launching a full on career or you may find the bugs therein biasing you against what will be (within a very short period of time) an excellent subsim, just my 2cents-- be forewarned.

I can understand that and I'm openminded to the future, but I'm just in shock on how a game developer like Ubisoft decided that SH4 was good enough to be released in such a buggy and incomplete state. If they ever manage to keep support of this game longer then a year *SH3 support ended in 8 months after it was released* then I'm a believer.

Mad Professor,
I feel your pain........There are bugs to be worked out. I just wanted to talk about your photo recon.
1969, my sub spent 30 days submerged in a Cambodian harbor. With 10 feet between the keel and the bottom.
During the day we shot photos of ships coming in with contbrand, to be off loaded and move down the Ho Minh Trail to Vietnam.
At night we would leave the Harbor, to bring up the snorkel to get fresh air and recharge the batteries. Only to go back into the harbor again to get the shots. It was the defining moment for Pres. Nixon to decide to bomb Cambodia...So when you silently move into position to get those photos or drop off a team, just try to remember what 70+ guys were doing down under the water just hoping they wouldn't caught....."DBF"

Out of curiosity, what did you guys do? It seems to me like the only people honestly buisy would be in the control room. Were the rest of you napping or trying to will yorselves from being discovered?

There is a Mod that reduces the frequency of those fu*peeep* Air attacks. I would not leave Port without it.
Another hint: Leave port. Go surfaced until your get attacked by an Aircraft. That means you are in Range of an Airbase. Now Dive at dawn to 20m (66 feet), set speed to slow, surface at dusk and go standard ahead.

Works great for me.

Aimbot,
We worked 4 hours on and 8 hours off. So yes you were busy only on watch. But sometimes walking through the control room and seeing only 10 feet of water below the keel and knowing you were only in 60 ft of water was cause to be alarmed....we could just imagine some plane looking down and seeing us.
