Default [REQ] New Ships Added To Game

What does it require to model new ships for SHIV? The are many Japanese warships which I would like to see in the game. Some of these ships include;

Aircraft Carriers - Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, Shinano

Battleships - Nagato

Heavy Cruisers - Tone class, Myoko class

Light Cruisers - Yubari, Tenryu

What is needed in order start working on something like this? I have access to some drawings of some of these ships and was wondering if they would be of any help to some of you modders?

All welcome, but I think the one Id like done first would be the infamous 'kaibokan' that I was sunk so often by in silent service.

I would like to see some of the DEs or frigates for Japan. It seems now
there is nothing between the fleet DDs and subchasers to guard convoys....

Yes, Kaibokans are sorely missing - and their lack is also responsible for an obvious excess of fleet destroyers on escort missions, which is entirely not appropriate to the campaign.

Default New Ships for SHIV

Nagato conversion? Do you mean that you are either building a new Nagato model or kitbashing one? I don't see how you could convert one from SHIII, as no one ever built a Nagato for SHIII. Just asking for clarification - it's just a minor point.

As for the merchants, which ones are you going to convert?:hmm: Some are more essential than others, and some are already in the game (albeit slightly improved versions).

Greets to all, first post...

After reading through this post, it appears that the original question has not been answered. I also have a number of Japanese Maritime vessels as well as IJN ships already modeled that I would like to bring into SH4... (I've been coding my own SH-style sim as a hobby over the last few years and modeled a number of vessels for testing). Most are based on the US Navy ONI-J manuals with additional details from other sources.

Anyway, I've crawled through the SH4 forums and read everything I could find regarding modding the game physics and modding existing textures etc, but found nothing about getting new meshes into the sim...

Can someone list or describe their toolchain? Thx!

there's a start.

Silent 3ditor will likely be the closest thing to one-stop shopping at some point:

What ships do you have (I'm not a 3d guy, but I will do anything I can to help!)

Thx tater for the link... Unfortunately, it looks like the domain is "parked" and the plugins are ???

It's all well anyway, I use Wngs3D, Blender and Hexagon 2 for the most part and don't have access to Max...

I may have to wait until Silent 3ditor is further along...

I've got the following ships modeled or partially finished:

PT-1 Class PT boat
Kinesaki (Naval Tanker)
Hadachi Maru (Coastal Tanker)
Takao maru (Medium Freighter)
Natori class Light Cruiser
Fubuki class Destroyer
CL Yubari (unfinished, the "hornpipe" stack is quite a challenge!)
I-1 Class submarine

They all need proper texturing as I modeled them to test my sims physics and AI engines on and just used simple color schemes...

I'd enjoy sharing these with the community once I'm sure of the conversion, scale etc, to SH4. I'm picky about having things right before I release...

Fubuki is already in SH4, I'm sure you know.

I'd love to see a Sugar baker sugar in game (Hadachi)!

Well tater, your dream could come true if I can figure out how to get her into SH4...

The only issue I have is how the meshes are coded. For instance, in the \Data\Sea\NCA_Furutaka folder, I can dope out the .cfg, .eqp, .sns as text files (parameters). The .dds and .tga files as textures. The .sim and .zon files are binary but appear to be parameter files (using miniTweaker) so...

This line from the .cfg file tells me the mesh must be in here somewhere: 3DModelFileName=data/Sea/NCA_Furutaka/NCA_Furutaka

That leaves the .dat and .val files... :hmm:
