Default Why is all of my crew asleep?

So my first mission was to patrol off of Honshu Island, Right now Im about half way between Pearl Harbor and Midway and the entire crew is sleeping. The ship is just sitting in the middle of the ocean at 0 kts. I've been playing using time compression very sparingly. I've just left my computer on overnight, hoping to play it realtime. Anyways, the first shift is up right now and they are all sleeping. Their fatigue is around 92/100. The second and third shifts are sleeping as well with fatigue levels of 38.

Anyways, why are they all asleep? They rotate in shifts. Why didnt they get sleep then? Is there a way to switch which shift is working?

Well.. funny thing. Everyone is asleep, but I still see them on the Bridge and Command room. They look awake to me.

Did you put your men at battlestations, then forget, then timecompress? They won't leave their stations unless you cancel Battlestations.

No, I have not put them at battlestations at all. I have not seen any enemy ships, so it was not needed. Secondly, I have not used time compression much at all. Yeah.. im running on 1x mode. It's still running too. They are slowly sleeping off their fatigue.

Happened to me three times already, every time with a "Patrol off Honshu Island" career mission...

I never used Man the battlestations option, never used more than 128x TC, never saved prior to my crew going to sleep...

You are exactly right. You just sit there, surfaced, with "Unable to comply" answers to all your orders. Pretty annoying and a major hurdle if you want to enjoy this game in career mode...

This happend to me...in the middle of duking it out on a surface battle with a destroyer.

ran out of torpedos, had the nads to surface and use the deck gun, needed ahead flank to avoid the destoryer that was going to tbone me... push the lever..."cannot comply" check the crew status, ALL SLEEPING! son-of-a...

get rammed by the destroyer, which then sank, waited 'overnight' and steamed off when they woke up

if you send them to battlestations it should wake everyone up (i didnt know at the time)

Thanks for the workaround!
However, it remains a workaround. This thing should not happen in the first place...

I started a saved game and had everyone asleep. I didn't notice it until my speed dropped off and the engines shut down. I set about 9 3/4 kts on the speed dial, the engines started and speed picked up. I then checked the crew and found they were all asleep, even the on-duty crew members. I used Battlestations briefly to get them awake. I then put back to sleep the off-duty crew which needed it. (see my post above)
