Im just starting a project to try and improve the at historical accuracy of the Japanese coastal defence artillery in line with a USN document on the subject dated 1946. Just hit a couple of snags. Firstly, there apprears to be NO naval artillery heavier than 8 inch. There is a couple of files to fit what appears to be 15 inch guns, but for some reason when placed they are empty, or dont appear at all!
Im just wondering, is anyone working in including any more Japanese artillery types, or indeed, where they are listed in the game directory? Id like to have a look at them and compare them to some historical tables I have. As it is, mounted on Japanese destroyers, they do seem a LITTLE bit to accurate. Its also a little odd that the turrets AND the bunkers that they list also appear to be identical! I dont know if this was the same in Silent Hunter 3, but if they are different, it might be interesting to try and port files over. Im thinking this may have been one of the areas they rushed. Lastly, so far ive yet to be engaged by any Japanese coastal guns. Can anyone confirm that the campaign file script for coastal guns actually is used at all? On the positive side, there are some nice little 4.7 and 8 inch turrets. The only problem appears to be with accurate placement. If done correctly, I think its going to make it suicidal to do surface attacks on some coastal ports. course, some of you might be that way inclined. ![]() |

In one of those "land spy in Honshu" missions I was engaged by coastal guns.
Coastal guns are in game and shoot at you 12 inch guns were there used, from old Battleships (Settsu, Kawachi, Satsuma, Aki, etc)
