[REQ] Siding aircraft off carrier decks
Hello all, I just encountered my first task force, and successfully managed to sink the carriers, however as I was watching them descend into the abyss I noticed that the aircraft were still attached to the deck. Is there any modder out there genius enough to make aircraft slide off the carrier deck as it sinks? Thx

Since we are sinking IJN CVs, the best thing would be to simply remove the aircraft from the flight deck. IJN CVs did not embark planes on the flight deck, they'd land, then they'd take an elevator ride below. If there are planes on the deck, they should either be taking off, or landing, if they are not actively doing either, they should be in the hanger.
The only real exception is the IJA CV in the game. That little guy is not an "escort carrier" but really a plane ferry ship. The rear of the flight deck should be packed with ARMY aircraft, when they get near the island base they are heading to, they fly them off to land on the island. They need to have an airgroup of no planes. Note that this is even true of the famous Battle of Midway. There were virtually no aircraft on the flight decks of the 4 CVs when the SBDs appeared. Just a handful of CAP planes taking off oor landing. The strike planes were gassed up, bombed up, and warmed up below---so the bombs went into the hanger spaces where they hit crowded hangers filled with planes, gas, and bombs, all in an enclosed space. BOOM. tater |

Thx for the Intel, however I certainly saw aircraft on the decks of these carriers, and the weather was certainly a no go for flying. Next time I find one ill get a screen shot.

that said the best time to shoot fish at a carrier is during
launch and recovery ops when they must maintain a steady course (rw not sh) and so aircraft on deck isnt necessarily historical either. MM |

True, and if you know the wind direction then you know which way they will be sailing---at flank speed, though. That said, the % of times that would be true in game is tiny. 50% of the time (night) they'd not be conducting air ops at all. Also, the large majority of TO and landing ops would be for the CAP---likely no more than 3 zeros. You'd expect 3 zekes up near the forward elevator, and nothing at all behind them. The CV models have planes all over the deck, looks goofy.
Sorry if I was confusing, I know the CVs in game have planes on deck. They should not is my point. So the easy fix to the planes "sticking" would be to delete the planes from the eqp file since they don't belong on deck in the first place. |
