[REL] Submarine Gun Tweak Files

**Released!**

Submarine Gun Tweak Files

I created these Tweak Files from scratch for use with Time Traveller's Mini Tweaker program. The following things can be modded with these files:

Submarine Deck Guns:

-Shell storage amounts for HE, AP, AA, and SS

-Shell speed, clip size, reload times, maximum shell range, shell angle, shell travel tolerance (gravity), and shell elevation tolerance (gravity)

-Gun barrel min-max elevations plus elevation speed, min-max traverse plus traverse speed, recoil time and distance

*Special thanks to Schlageter-JG26 for doing some great detective work.
I hope everyone can find these files useful and create some great mods with them.

Does this fix the range being displayed in meters when you have selected imperial measurements in teh options?

And does it fix the sideways viewing angle and upside-down effect on the 5 inch 25 deck gun?

I don't think these files can adjust any camera settings. Those settings are probably in the cameras.dat file.

Thank you sir for all your good work.

I have been playing around with the values of the 20mm single and twin and the changes are not showing up ingame ..... is there any other file that needs to be modded to add ammo to these ?

The extra ammo does work for the deck guns ....... in the mean while going to change some values in the .upc's for the 20mm's and see what happens

Modding extra ammo into the game does work. I tested it before releasing these tweak files.

A few modding secrets when using Mini Tweaker with SH4:

Mini Tweaker default directory is set default for SH3 folders, not SH4. If you don't have SH3 installed, make some fake folder directories like this (for these specific tweak files):

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Library\USSubPa rts (I don't know why a space is showing here in the last word.. sorry)

Ok, now that you have created all of those empty folder directories, copy and paste the correct files you will be modding from SH4 into this SH3 directory.. .which would be:

20mm_Oerlikon_Single.sim
20mm_Oerlikon_Twin.sim
Deck_Gun_3_50.sim
Deck_Gun_4_50.sim
Deck_Gun_5_25.sim
Deck_Gun_12mm_Browning.sim
Deck_Gun_40mm_Single.sim
Deck_Gun_40mm_Twin.sim

Now this is important.. after modding these files with Mini Tweaker, copy and paste the new, changed files from your SH3 Library\USSubParts directory back into your SH4 Library\USSubParts directory. But NEVER leave backup files in your SH4 Library folder. If you do, then the new, modded file will not be recognized by the game, and the changes won't show. I don't know why. That's just the way it is. The reason we have to do it this way is because Mini Tweaker was designed for modding SH3. I hope this helps you understand the way Mini Tweaker works for SH4. If you have any other questions or problems, just ask.

Yep it was the backup files that mini tweaker makes causing the trouble .... had been switching it to the SH4 folder and doing the mods there.

Weird that the deck guns and the 40mm's worked with the backup copies in the folder but not the 20's.

Its funny but the last time I visited the USS Drum one of the WWII crew members was there talking to folks and said they used to weigh the boat down like a lead brick with extra ammo for all the guns.

Thanks Again

Can you make it point and click please? This is doable but my brain hurts from reading it.

Would anyone be able to repost these files? It seems that the files are not on FileFront anymore, and I'd love to tweak these files.

Thanks!

Get Skwas S3D , teh Silent Editor.

And here's what you can do with it:

A pic says more that 1k words:

Code:
The blue circle is teh Node number.
In cases of GE20mmSingle.sim, its easy to find
those juicy parts, number is 7. (parent ID, one up is nr6)

Red circles are the ones you might want to play with,
first 2 from top is about how fast the gun moves about.

Then its the Big Red 'Un,
  Shell flying speed
  Recoil time
  Recoil distance
  Clip size

Range can be adjusted but I dont think the
crew hits much anything over 3 km anyways...

Last is about how much ammo you got.
In some cases, if the clip size is over 1 you get weird effects in game.
But for deck guns, try shell speed about 3000
recoils 0.1 both, clipsize 1 and add 32767 amounts,
32767 is probably the largest number the game accepts in this case,
If I remember right there was some talks about it
in subsim like a year ago or so...
Those where the SIM files.

For the AMMO in particular gun uses,
you need to tweak the Shells.zon
Code:
GerSubParts folder

File(s):
Ammo type - Node in Shells.zon

For the guns:
Deck_Gun_GE20mm_Turret.sim
Deck_Gun_GE20mm_Vierling.sim
Deck_Gun_GE20mmSingle.sim
Deck_Gun_GE20mmSingle_Shield.sim
Deck_Gun_GE20mmTwin.sim
Deck_Gun_GE20mmTwin_Shield.sim

This is the ammo they use, for example,
if you want more power for German 20mm Single Armor Piercing ammo,
you need to open the shells.zon file and
tweak the node nr 15. (parent node is 14)
   AP 14
   HE 16
   AA 12
   SS 36

etc:
Deck_Gun_GE30mm_Turret.sim

   AP 4
   HE 2
   AA 12
   SS 36

Deck_Gun_GE37mm_M.sim
Deck_Gun_GE37mm_SA.sim
Deck_Gun_GE37mm_TSA.sim

   AP 20
   HE 16
   AA 18
   SS 36

Deck_Gun_GE105mm.sim

   AP 100
   HE 102
   AA 98
   SS 36

#####################################

American:
USSubParts folder *deck_gun*.sim files;

File(s):
Ammo type - Node in Shells.zon

20mm_Oerlikon_Single.sim " -- " means there's a 0.

   AP 14
   HE 16
   AA --
   SS 36

20mm_Oerlikon_Twin.sim

   AP 14
   HE 16
   AA --
   SS --

Deck_Gun_40mm_Single.sim
Deck_Gun_40mm_Twin.sim

   AP 26
   HE 28
   AA --
   SS --

Deck_Gun_12mm_Browning.sim

   AP 14
   HE 16
   AA 12
   SS 36

Even if you got 1.4 I spose theym shells are the same,
I dont think they added more shell in 1.5 patch, not 100% sure tho...

And, f you tweak the shells remember that other boats uses the
same ammo, you could get a nasty surprise if getting too close.

Instead, just make'em deckguns go pew pew pew...

I gotta run now, I hope I got this post right, no time to check it
'til later this weekend.

Until then, have fun.

I have a simple question: I tried to increase the amount of shells for the 20mm AA guns (both singe and dual barrel) but the game fails to detect the new amount setting. Nothing happens....the number of cartridges is always the stock one. Even after updating to 1.4 ad using both s3d and MiniTweaker I have no results. Is there a solution for this??

Try editing the Ammunition.upc file (in Data\UPCData\UPCUnitsData). Increasing the PackSize might do the trick (the gun's .sim file controls clip size, i.e. how many rounds one clip can hold, i.e. how many rounds are fired before the gun needs to be reloaded). Try your changes on a Single Mission or new Career game, some changes to the .upc files are not properly recognized by the game if you reload an existing career.
