From the manual:

Map Notes

With this tool you can place marks on the map. Each mark will have a generic name when placed (Mark 1, Mark 2, etc).

You can modify this name (18 characters max) and attach a note (54 characters, centered, max. wide 18 characters).

You can delete this mark.

I can place them, move them, and delete them. I haven't figured out how to modify them.

Does anyone have a clue?

Nope, wonder about that as well. If there is ability to write notes they forgot to put it in the game.

Ok I know RTFM, but how do you clear the map like you use to in SHIII. Can't seem to find a button that clears all the Pencil in marks etc.

You can delete a particular type of mark by holding down SHIFT while clicking delete on it.

Hold CTRL and click on the eraser in the map. It clears out everything but waypoints.

WOW, can you finally put a memo on the marks? That's GREAT!! It was one of my so wished features for SH3!
