A dev said in one of the interviews that "if your PC supports a resolution, SH4 can use it." This isn't the case with 1280x720 which is my native screen resolution.
1024x768 isn't too good without FSAA on a 56" screen. Proper widescreen support includes 720p, equally and perhaps more important than 1080i and other resolutions. Consider that any 8800 owner with a TV that does not support 1080p will probably overscan 1080i, and 8800's cannot underscan anything right now due to broken drivers. So we're stuck at 1024x768. Please, please, please fix 1280x720 with the next patch. |

C:\Documents and Settings\....your user folder........\My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\main.cfg If you text edit it with notepad.exe you should find this section: [VIDEO] Resolution=1024,768,60,22 DynamicShadows=No FullScreen=Yes Synchronized=Yes TextureResolutionHigh=Yes Try manually changing it to: [VIDEO] Resolution=1280,720,60,22 DynamicShadows=No FullScreen=Yes Synchronized=Yes TextureResolutionHigh=Yes That *might* force it.. I tried that settings, and strangely it went to 1600x1200. No luck. I too would really like to get this game running at 1280x720. While it isn't the native res of my lcd (actually 1920x1080), I fear my system (p4 3.ghz northwood, 1 GB DDR400, Nvidia 6800 OC) will not drive it without some serious slowdown. Anyone have any advice? Shame when you can tweak most games to do custom WS res but so far, not this one...

well, I also have a 40" LCD TV connected together with my 19" Widescreen LCD monitor to the video card.
The LCD TV has a resolution of 1366 X 768, what about that kind of resolution? I can play the game, I can't see the menu bar below.

Most games, nearly all games in fact, get their available resolutions from Windows. If your Display Properties->Settings shows the resolution as being available then you should get it within MOST games including SH4. To get/make custom resolutions either use Powerstrip, or, with Nvidia cards goto the Nvidia control panel, click Manage custom timings and create the resolution you want. Powerstrip is really good but the last time I looked it didn't properly support Nvidia 8800s. Missing menu bar - This is MAY BE a different issue. You are might be getting an overscan issue on your TV. Check to see whether your TV supports 1:1 pixel mapping or, at least has adjustable overscan - if it does.. set it to 0. In essense overscan expands the screen over the edges by between 5% and 15%, sometimes even higher.. Sometimes you can adjust overscan on the graphics card.. I think Powerstrip lets you manage overscan although I remember it being fiddly. |

very few if any of vid cards support 1366x768. You usally have to go with 1368 with powerstrip because if I remember correctly 1366 isn't divisible by 8. Text is going to be a little fuzzy however. Unfortunately 1366 will always be an uphill challenge. 1280x720 is indeed supported by my 37" lcd. I use it as my common resolution for browsing and such. I wonder why I'm not seeing it then, unlike say.... HL2 or games that you can even manually tweak .ini like FEAR.

I have a couple of other things you can try: I am guessing you go from DVI on your 6800 to HDMI on the back of your screen. If you do I would suggest you try VGA or even DVI if your TV has it. I have a couple of Samsung HD TVs and both work totally differently if you connect to the VGA port rather then HDMI. I actually get a perfect 1:1 pixel mapped image @ 1366x768 on the 32" but ONLY if I use VGA. If I use HDMI it will only accept 1280x720 or 1920x1080i. You get a very marginal loss in picture quality against DVI.. if any. I have seen the type of issue you have with 1280x720p before. First of all it could be to do with you having the TV as a secondary display. It could also be the way the SH4 Devs are reading the driver information... it may not be their fault really. |
