Default Control Room Interaction

I'm enjoying the game, but I'm struggling with something (beyond figuring out manual targeting with a new system!)

We were told that the tradeoff for not having some of the eye candy stations like the SHIII Captain's cabin was that the stations we would have - though limited in number - would be far more interactive.

Well, unless I'm doing something wrong, I can't for the life of me figure out why I would ever set foot in the control room. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely nothing to do there. I can't click on the crew to bring up their relevant orders, or go to their stations, or use or interact with any of the equipment. I can't transit to the nav map, attack map, or crew management panes through the control room. I can't even get a full set of information from the gauges - no C02, no battery, etc. As far as I can tell, the only thing I can do in the control room is leave the control room.

I'm just starting out, so I'm probably missing something. But the Captain's cabin, so derided by many as useless eye candy, was in fact MORE interactive than the SHIV control room. I could lie down in the captain's bunk. Yup, lying down was a higher level of interactivity than I'm getting with the SHIV control room . . .

I'm more than happy to be the bonehead that can't figure this out if it means having a control room station that does something. The conning tower works fine - I can use the sonar and radar by going to the stations. Any help here would be appreciated.

Heh, I can't even use the radar...I must be doing SOMETHING wrong...

I too noticed the lack of interaction with the crew...now the control room (vital part of ANY boat) is itself eyecandy...

I thought it was only me?

On the other hand, I can very well click the crew and they react. Just the links to the menus, as in SH3 seem to be missing.

I also got radar-contacts reported, though I didn't equip my sub with a radar LOL

The new command room annoys me as well. As I´ve said somewhere else, it feels like being glued to the bottom in a wax museum.

The most ridicules thing is that you can´t even read the main depth gauge! On the bridge the gauges are absolutely non-readable (or is it my graphic card???). First thing modders will probably do is give us readable dials like they did for SH3. I wonder whether the DevTeam ever PLAYED their own sim....?

Cheers, AS

I can read a few of the gauges, but not all of them, and some don't work and of course the set isn't even complete. I'm just confused as to why they create something called a "control room" from which you can control exactly nothing.

I don't have the game. But if everything you say is true, I would say excellent post and points. The Command Room should be more interactive now than ever! Working and readable gauges for the 4th iteration in the series is a must! You would think it would be a given.

Even though I, as I said, I don't have the game, I just really like your post. And, although they supposedly read this board, I would like to recommend that you also post this on the Ubi SHIV forum. Just copt and paste, but perhaps change the title slightly to like...

Control Room (Non)Interaction.

Anyway, overall post Rykaird!

EDIT - If you don't want to post this on the Ubi forum I would like to ask your permission to do so. May I?
