Default Career lost (save game error)

After getting the annoying keycode error after installing one of the available mods, I found myself in need, or so I assumed, to upgrade from version 1.3 to 1.4b. As stated on the website, I had my captain in port and committed the install.

Still, when I try to launch a saved game from this career, the latest save when he is in port, the game crashes back to desktop after loading about 2 centimetres on the loading bar. Then there is the usual mumbo-jumbo about kernel.dll in association with the SH3.exe ....

I really enjoyed that career, and I had just been given a brand new submarine - and now this. Does anyone have any idea on how I can get back in business, or do I have to start all over?

Welcome to SubSim

What mod are you using?

If you are using GWX and your career is not compatible in terms of flotilla, boat and dates with the GWX files the game might crash.

Well, I do not know what was wrong, but I did an attempt to re-install the game at a different hard drive, designated K. It failed, it did something but the game was not installed. But as I tried to launch the original install, well it worked! The only other thing I did was to change a realism setting (adding dud torpedoes) ... Well, will run it now and see what happens.

The mod that was installed and which I think caused the problems was SH3World, found here at subsim.com

If you haven't, you might want to consider deleting SHIIIWorld and installing GWX and SHIII Commander 2. You'll find that neither will cause a crash as SHIIIWorld did. Besides you'll really enjoy GWX.

This is very embarassing to ask as it is most certainly very obvious, but what is this GWX thing? In short.

GWX is a free add on that you can install over SH3. It has new ships, new flotillas, new areas of operations etc. It's not a game it's an experience. Try to download it from the link in my signature. If you don't like it you can always return and play the original SH3
