Default Deck Gun in GWX

Ok, So I´ve installed GWX. And the first 20min I just sat there staring and listening to the grammophone. I used to play stock with latest patch.

What a difference. I love it. I still play at 34% realism cause Im still trying to learn the game.

Yesterday I started a new career with GWX and found 3 unescorted merchants.
Everytime I tried to sink them with my deckgun. But here´s the problem. I seem to miss ALOT when firing it. Shells go way over or way off to one side. And I haven´t checked the rolling u-boat thingy in realism settings.

Before GWX it was easy to fire your deckgun. just put the crosshair on the ship and the shell would hit straight where you aimed. Have I missed something? even though I dont use the "rolling" of the boat options?

One more questions. How long range do the Hydophones have? I´ve read its about 20km, that correct? And should I really trust my crew sonarman or listen myself everytime?

Thanks again for this GREAT mod. I really love it.
And this forum aswell. I´m in here atleast twice a day.:p

The hydrophone range is about 20km

There is no option to turn off the "rolling u-boat thingy" The option you are thinking of just aligns all views to the world and not the boat.

The deck gun in GWx has been made more realistic. One way this has been done is by increasing the amount the u-boat moves around.
Try hitting the fire button when the u-boat is not leaning over much.

Remember you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in with the deck gun and adjust the range. Ask you watch officer for the range to target.

Ref Deck Gun - this used to be laser sighted (what you saw, you hit) then an excellent modder came along and 'fixed' it. As it should be.

Ref Hydrophones - Yep that's about the range, maybe a bit further. However, you can usually hear further/better than your sonar operator.

Like Letum mentioned, you can use your mouse wheel to zoom in, but if you roll the wheel slow enough, you'll notice that there are 3 different views you can choose from. I prefer using the middle position where you can see the whole gun. As your boat rocks up and down, you can watch and shoot when your gun is pointing close to the right position towards the ship.

You'll still miss some, but with a little practice, you'll get the hang of it. It helps me quite a bit.

I swear with my hand on my heart that the first time I fired the GWX 88mm deck gun at a small merchant, it took only one shot to cause the ship to break in two and sink (I hit it amidships, a metre or so above the waterline). The next target was also a rather small merchant, and took only a few shots to sink.

I was like, "WTF?! One-hit-one-kill deck gun?". Maybe I should replace the "She's going down" message with a .wav going "BOOM, headshot!":p.

Seriously, though, it only happened once.

I had to fire maybe 20 shells each for my merchants to go down.

The gun....ask your Watch Officer how far the boat is from you and adjust you cannon to that height. Try to use the cannon as close to zero degrees on your nose when firing because you are less influenced by a rocking uboat If the cannon is at say 90 degrees from you bow, that cannon will be rocking like a baby swing. So keep it as close to the bow as possible for less rocking. You'll be just fine
