Default SH3/GWX Newbie

First I should say, this forum is great, there's so much info on here I haven't needed to post until now.
I got SH3 about 2 weeks ago then found these forums and recently downloaded GWX. I've been completely addicted to GWX, sunk a few ships, but I don't last more than 2 missions tops! It's been a blast, but I'm starting to get a little discouraged.

Anyway, here's my question....how do I avoid getting blown up??? It never fails, I cruising along, see a warship, dive, they hover around dropping depth charges until I'm gone. What should I do?

Please help!

Get the hell away from them, build expierience on merchants, and other small things.

Go deep, slow, 2 knots and AWAY from them.

try later when better.

Sieg heil!

I'm not going after them, just trying to avoid them and stay alive, and no matter what they get me. guess i just need practice.

In the beginning, try to avoid places where there are good chances to have DDs on patrol, start in early war and make your hand by attacking lonely merchants.
The later try your hand at a couple of convoys.
It's like it's been for all of us : read in depth and understand the manuals, if posible have a few readings in books or on the net about the real thing, and it takes some time to build an experience..

Welcome, mate!

Run silent, run deep, and manually plot speed to 2 knots if detected.

PS: Later in the war you will get some acoustic torpedoes (escort killers), and bold (distraction).

Its all about practice, as stated already. Good luck!

I do tend to run on the surface until something sees me. I'll try this next time...and it sounds like I need to move A LOT slower

@All: Thanks for all the feedback!
