Default SH3 and Vista

I was wondering...
Does Silent Hunter III run on Windows Vista?

Has anyone successfully done this?

Vista is not out that I'm aware of. I would suspect that SH3 does not run in Vista but as XP had, you could run games for windows 98 with some converter program that came with XP. I think Vista has quite a few months before it appears. XP should be supported for quite some time so I'm not worried about Vista at this time.

i've got a beta knocking about from work, i'll run an install on an old hard drive and let you know. i'm wondering about this myself.

obviously the beta does not reflect whether it will work for sure but it might give us a clue.

Best solution is to not buy and install Vista.

Iam not gona buy it untill it have been out for a year and most problem is solved.

And its not necessary to install Vista if you allready have XP on your comp.

Only reason to get vista is if you buy a new comp. But even there i would choose XP.

Vista is to demanding. It require a high end computer to run smooth and also over 40 gig HD space. And as i have only a 76 gig raptor disc, vista is not going into this comp.

In fact Vista is more or less eyecandy and an security op system. Ive heard rumors that its a pain to enable and maintain all security that comes whit it so most people will not run thos programs, and whit that in mind there is no point to use Vista.

DirectX10 will be optimized for XP as well and i guess most program that will be made are backwards compatible whit XP.

So my tip is. Dont buy it and install it untill at least it have been out on the market for a year. There is really no point to buy it atm.

Just my 2 cents.

Ps: Vista is set for release in Januari 2007. Dont remember exact date but there is a set one.

That is a good tip Viking. From what I heard they were going to rush Vista out for Christmas but is no where near ready. They need to get the XP computers off the shelves as well. I would not sweat Vista at the moment.

I agree. Tons of bugs havn't solved and your SH3 may be ruined by a virus

What I think is that patched SH3 should work in Vista (just like SH2 + 1.1patch work in Xp) However, the starforce drive provided in SH3 doesn't work well in Vista (confirmed) and u need to wait for a new Vista-compatitible drive

OR No-CD crack (oh, no, taboo again)

I tried it and StarForce keeps it from running for now, no matter what I try.
