Default Windows Vista

I just installed the full, final version of Vista Ultimate on my computer and it's great. It's a fast OS, a lot more polished than the betas, of course, but it comes with more features "out of the box" than any other OS I've seen, including some Linux distros.

There's so much new! The GUI is wonderful. It looks great, especially since I can enable so many features. It's a lot better than the WindowBlinds or whatever trying to imitate it. It has a pretty big footprint, right now it's using 640MB of RAM but I don't think that's just the OS. There are a lot more visible settings, so you can change more without a 3rd party app or digging deep. It also detects a lot of hardware right when it starts up, so it doesn't take long to get it up and running right. The installation is quicker than XP, even though it's far bigger (only comes on DVDs.)

All versions come on 1 DVD so the only thing you need to do to upgrade is get a new product key. There's just a lot like that.

It also comes with "gadgets" which are MS's version of Widgets. It doesn't install Windows Messenger until you tell it to, which is a godsend. It comes with additions/improvements to standard programs, like new games, and a DVD maker to expand on Movie Maker.

I haven't even scratched the surface, though. I'll post some more later.

EDIT: It comes out officially in the end of January. I was able to get one from MSDN, where all versions are out early.

Sounds not so awful at all. :hmm:

I get it in march when i get a PC that can handle it. I would have not upgraded at all if there wouldn't be Direct X10. I need it. Now!

You have to get an AV program designed for Vista. I'm using Avast!'s free one right now.

There's a video on Google Video where a MS PA guy is talking about some of Vista's new features and a guy is doing them on OSX.

If you don't mind, load up some of the sims on this board and find out what works and what doesn't. If it is not too much trouble of course.

The Dangerous Waters Demo works fine. I'll see what else I can get.

Pirates! works but my video card that I overclocked in XP is running hot and it's artifacting like crazy. I guess it kept the settings but right now I can't put it back to stock.
